In recent years, heavy metal ions and nitroaromatic explosives in environmental pollutants have been a serious threat to human health due to their high toxicity, carcinogenicity, and nondegradability. The detection of metal ions and nitroaromatics has become an urgent problem. In this paper, a new water stable luminescent Eu-based metal-organic framework ([Eu(L)(DMF)(2)](n)) was prepared by the reaction of rigid ligand H3L (3,5-bis-(3-carboxyphenoxy)benzoic acid) and Eu (NO3)(3)center dot 6H(2)O under solvothermal conditions. Luminescent detection of the nitroaromatic compounds and metal ions showed that the complex had high sensitivity to Fe3+, o-nitrophenol, p-nitrophenol, and m-nitrophenol.

Chiral hyperbranched polymers (HBP) containing cinchona alkaloids were synthesized using a Mizoroki-Heck (MH) coupling polymerization reaction between a cinchona squaramide dimer and tri- or tetrasubstituted aromatic iodides. This is a new type of polymeric chiral organocatalyst. We found that the as-obtained chiral HBPs show excellent catalytic activity in the asymmetric Michael reaction. Almost perfect enantioselectivity (>99% ee) was achieved in the reaction of beta-ketoester and trans-beta-nitrostyrene. The three-dimensional network structure of the chiral HBPs is structurally robust and can be reused for further reaction without any loss in their catalytic activity. (C) 2019 Elsevier Inc. In this article, we describe the development of a new aerobic C-H oxidation methodology catalyzed by a precious metal-free LaMnO3 perovskite catalyst. Molecular oxygen is used as the sole oxidant in this approach, obviating the need for other expensive and/or environmentally hazardous stoichiometric oxidants. The electronic and structural properties of the LaMnO3 catalysts were systematically optimized, and a reductive pretreatment protocol was proved to be essential for acquiring the observed high catalytic activities. It is demonstrated that this newly developed method was extremely effective for the oxidation of alkylarenes to ketones as well as for the oxidative dimerization of 2-naphthol to 1,1-binaphthyl-2,2-diol (BINOL), a particularly important scaffold for asymmetric catalysis. Detailed spectroscopic and mechanistic studies provided valuable insights into the structural aspects of the active catalyst and the reaction mechanism.

Chiral polyureas of cinchona alkaloids were synthesized via repetitive Mizoroki-Heck (MH) coupling reaction. The Pd-catalyzed polycondensation of cinchona urea dimers6and aromatic diiodide7afforded the chiral polyureas (P1-P4). The catalytic activity of the chiral polymers was subsequently investigated. The asymmetric Michael addition of ketoesters to nitroolefins was successfully catalyzed by the polymeric organocatalysts (P1-P4) to give the corresponding Michael adducts with high catalytic activities and excellent enantionselectivities (up to >99% ee). The polymeric catalysts were insoluble in commonly used organic solvents. They were easily recovered and reused several times without any loss of the catalytic activity.

Background: Dementia, as a global public health problem, is becoming increasingly serious. As a precursor of dementia, mild cognitive impairment (MCI) plays an important role in the diagnosis and prevention of dementia. Recent studies have found a correlation between gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT) levels and cognitive function in men. The relationship between GGT levels and cognitive function in women remains unclear because GGT activity and expression differ between the sexes. Method: We recruited a total of 2,943 Chinese women from Jidong and Taian in 2019. We grouped the participants according to GGT levels, diagnosed MCI using the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MOCA) scale, and modeled the study outcomes using logistic regression to explore the relationship between GGT level and MCI. We also analyzed the interaction of obesity, sleep duration, and hyperuricemia with GGT in the development of MCI. Results: The prevalence of MCI increased with increasing GGT level, from the lowest quartile to the highest quartile of GGT: 8.4% (66/786), 14.2% (119/840), 17.6% (108/613), and 21.4% (151/704), respectively. At the same time, as GGT levels increased, so did the risk of MCI. In the fully adjusted model, compared with those for participants in the lowest GGT quartiles, the odds ratios (ORs), and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for MCI for participants in the second, third, and fourth GGT quartiles were 1.49 (1.04-2.12), 1.53(1.06-2.21), and 1.88 (1.33-2.65), respectively. The risk of developing MCI was further increased in people with high GGT levels who were obese (OR = 1.96, 95% CI: 1.39-2.76, P < 0.001), slept less (OR = 1.91, 95% CI: 1.35-2.71, P < 0.001), had high levels of uric acid (OR = 1.55, 95% CI: 1.03-2.32, P < 0.001), or after menopause (OR = 2.92, 95% CI: 2.07-4.12, P < 0.001). Conclusion: We found that MCI is more common in women with elevated GGT levels, so GGT could be a potential diagnostic marker for MCI. Meanwhile, our findings indicated that women with high GGT levels had an increased risk of MCI when they were obese, sleep deprived, had high serum uric acid (SUA) levels or underwent menopause. Sulfate radical (SO4 center dot(-)) and hydroxyl radical (center dot OH) generated from persulfate or peroxymonosulfate in AOPs have been widely used in contaminant degradation. Anthracene (ANT) can be decomposed by SO4 center dot(-) and center dot OH. The processes of ANT decomposition were investigated using theoretical calculations in this paper. The initiation reactions of ANT, anthrone, anthraquinone (ATQ) and 1-hydroxylanthraquinone (1-hATQ) by two radicals are studied. The highest free energy barriers of initiation reactions are 22.30 kcal mol(-1) in ATQ + SO4 center dot(-) reaction and 6.84 kcal mol(-1) in ATQ + center dot OH reaction. Comparing the rate constants of initiation reaction through the two radicals at 273-373 K, it can be concluded that SO4 center dot(-) and center dot OH both play important roles on the initiation of ANT and anthrone at lower pH. For ATQ and 1-hATQ, center dot OH is more important than SO4 center dot(-) in the initiation process, which indicates that the indirect influence of SO4 center dot(-) are more significant in the degradation processes of ATQ and 1-hATQ. This study provides theoretical confirmations for the mechanisms of reactions of ANT with SO4 center dot(-) and center dot OH, and evaluates the importance of SO4 center dot(-) and center dot OH according to the reaction rates. The work can give more insight into the degradation of PAHs by radicals.

During the past few decades, fabrication of functional rotaxane-branched dendrimers has become one of the most attractive yet challenging topics within supramolecular chemistry and materials science. Herein, we present the successful fabrication of a family of new rotaxane-branched dendrimers containing up to 21 platinum atoms and 42 photosensitizer moieties through an efficient and controllable divergent approach. Notably, the photosensitization efficiencies of these rotaxane-branched dendrimers gradually increased with the increase of dendrimer generation. For example, third-generation rotaxane-branched dendrimer PG3 revealed 13.3-fold higher O-1(2) generation efficiency than its corresponding monomer AN. The enhanced O-1(2) generation efficiency was attributed to the enhancement of intersystem crossing (ISC) through the simple and efficient incorporation of multiple heavy atoms and photosensitizer moieties on the axles and wheels of the rotaxane units, respectively, which has been validated by UV-visible and fluorescence techniques, time-dependent density functional theory calculations, photolysis model reactions, and apparent activation energy calculations. Therefore, we develop a new promising platform of rotaxane-branched dendrimers for the preparation of effective photosensitizers.

The main focus of this work is to investigate the degradation behavior of two newly developed encapsulants for photovoltaic applications (thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) and polyolefin elastomer (POE)), compared to the most widely used Ethylene Vinyl Acetate (EVA) upon exposure to two different artificial ageing tests (with and without ultraviolet (UV) irradiation). Additive composition, optical and thermal properties and chemical structure (investigated by means of Thermal Desorption Gas Chromatography coupled to Mass Spectrometry, UV-Visible-Near Infrared spectroscopy, Differential Scanning Calorimetry, Thermogravimetric Analysis and Fourier Transform-Infrared spectroscopy, respectively) of the analyzed polymers were monitored throughout the exposure to artificial ageing tests. Relevant signs of photo-oxidation were detectable for TPO after the UV test, as well as a depletion of material’s stabilizers. Signs of degradation for EVA and POE were detected when the UV dose applied was equal to 200 kW h m(-2). A novel approach is presented to derive information of oxidation induction time/dose from thermogravimetric measurements that correlate well with results obtained by using oxidation indices.

The enantioselective Henry reaction is a very important and useful carbon-carbon bond forming reaction. The execution of this reaction requires the use of efficient chiral catalysts. In this work, in situ formed complexes of N-substituted dihydroxypyrrolidines, chiral ligands derived from L-tartaric acid and amines, were evaluated as catalysts in the enantioselective Henry reaction. The results showed that the nature of the N-substituent on the ligand significantly influences the outcome of the reaction. Best results were obtained using a Cu (II) complex of (3S,4S)-N-benzyl-3,4-dihydroxypyrrolidine, in the presence of DIPEA, for the reaction of aromatic aldehydes with nitromethane, at room temperature, originating products with er up to 92:8 (R:S) and conversions up to 96%. The interaction between the pyrrolidine ligand and the copper ion, in isopropanol, was followed by UV-vis spectrophotometry, showing a 1:1 stoichiometry and a binding constant of 4.4. The results obtained will contribute to the design and development of more efficient chiral catalysts for this type of reaction.
