These Ni(II)/phenanthroline-mediated coupling reactions can be performed with a variety of carbon substituents R-1 and R-2 (sp(3), sp(2), or aromatic), some of them functionalized. Reaction rates do not seem to be strongly dependent on the nature of the substituents, as sp(3)-sp(3) or sp(2)-sp(2) coupling reactions proceed rapidly. Experimental results are supported by density functional theory calculations, which provide insights into the energetics associated with the C?C bond coupling step.

Developing well-defined iron-based catalysts for olefin metathesis would be a breakthrough achievement in the field not only to replace existing catalysts by inexpensive metals but also to attain a new reactivity taking advantage of the unique electronic structure of the base metals. The use of heteroleptic Fe(HMTO)(RO) [RO=(CH3)(2)CF3CO, CH3(CF3)(2)CO, or Ph(CF3)(2)CO] prepared in situ significantly increases the polymerization rate while preserving selectivity. An N-heterocyclic carbene-catalyzed synthesis of dibenzofulvenes and fluorenyl alcohols was developed. In the presence of 10 mol% NHC (1,3-bis(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)imidazol-2-ylidene) and 4 angstrom molecular sieves, 9-(trimethylsilyl)fluorene undergoes an olefination reaction with aldehydes to produce dibenzofulvenes in 43-99% yields. However, on reducing the NHC loading to 1 mol% and with the addition of water, 9-(trimethylsilyl)fluorene selectively undergoes nucleophilic addition with aldehydes to afford fluorenyl alcohols in 40-95% yields.

Background Preeclampsia is a serious pregnancy-specific syndrome with incompletely understood pathogenesis. Previous study has demonstrated that the decreased CXCR2 in preeclamptic placentas may contribute to the development of preeclampsia. The role of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of CXCR2 gene in the pathogenesis of preeclampsia remains largely unexplored. Thus, we aimed to investigate the association between polymorphisms of CXCR2 gene and preeclampsia in Han Chinese women. Methods Totally 481 pregnant women, including 243 controls and 238 patients with preeclampsia were recruited. The rs1126579 and rs2230054 polymorphisms in CXCR2 gene were tested using polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism method. Results Significantly increased risk of preeclampsia was observed in the rs1126579 CC or TC/CC genotypes when compared with TT genotype (CC vs. TT: odss ratio [OR] = 2.11, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.18-3.76, p = 0.039; TC/CC vs. TT: OR = 1.89, 95% CI = 1.29-2.78, p = 0.001). Markedly higher risk of preeclampsia was found to be associated with rs1126579 TC genotype (TC vs. TT/CC: OR = 1.48, 95% CI = 1.04-2.12, p = 0.031). After stratification analysis, the different distribution of TC/CC genotypes was particularly significant in the severe preeclampsia group (OR = 2.15, 95% CI = 1.42-3.24, p < 0.01), the early-onset severe preeclampsia group (OR = 1.97, 95% CI = 1.14-3.42, p = 0.013), and the late-onset severe preeclampsia group (OR = 2.29, 95% CI = 1.39-3.78, p < 0.01). Besides, TC genotype carriers had a 1.55 fold increased risk of severe preeclampsia (95% CI = 1.06-2.27, p = 0.022) and a 1.80 fold increased risk of late onset severe preeclampsia (95% CI = 1.14-2.83, p = 0.01) than those of TT/CC genotype carriers. Conclusions Our study suggests a genetic association between rs1126579 polymorphism in CXCR2 gene and increased risk of preeclampsia. These data provide a new clue for future investigation. We report that the nucleophilic acyl substitution reaction of aliphatic and (hetero)aromatic amides by organolithium reagents proceeds quickly (20 s reaction time), efficiently, and chemoselectively with a broad substrate scope in the environmentally responsible cyclopentyl methyl ether, at ambient temperature and under air, to provide ketones in up to 93 % yield with an effective suppression of the notorious over-addition reaction. Detailed DFT calculations and NMR investigations support the experimental results. The described methodology was proven to be amenable to scale-up and recyclability protocols. Contrasting classical procedures carried out under inert atmospheres, this work lays the foundation for a profound paradigm shift of the reactivity of carboxylic acid amides with organolithiums, with ketones being straightforwardly obtained by simply combining the reagents under aerobic conditions and with no need of using previously modified or pre-activated amides, as recommended.

Synthesis of efficient and reusable catalyst was carried out by immobilizing azacrown ether onto the covalently linked amine-functionalized mesoporous MCM-41 via a simple method. Application of this linked azacrown ether functionalized MCM-41 catalyst was also investigated as an effective, heterogeneous in the synthesis of hexahydroquinoline derivatives under solvent-free conditions at environment temperature. The heterogeneous catalyst is characterized by TGA, XRD, TEM,(HNMR)-H-1,(CNMR)-C-13, and FT-IR techniques. The results of theses analysis showed that, MCM-41@azacrown-SB-Cu catalyst with a 22.99% mol loading of copper has given excellent catalytic activity and high efficiency in a short time. It is noted that one of the most valuable factors in this work is the recyclability of the catalyst.
