Thioamides could be conveniently synthesized in good to excellent yields via DMSO-promoted oxidative coupling of methylhetarenes with amines in the presence of a near stoichiometric amount of sulfur (1.25 equiv.). Both aliphatic and aromatic amines were found to be competent substrates. When anilines o-substituted by cyclizable groups such as OH, NH2, NHPh, SH and CONH2 were used as amine substrates, the corresponding hybrid bis-aza-heterocycles were formed in high yields even with a sulfur loading as low as 0.5 equiv.

Purification of recombinant proteins is often a challenging matter because high purity and high recovery are desired. If the expressed recombinant protein is also in a complex matrix, such as from the silkworm expression system, purification becomes more challenging. Even if purification from the silkworm expression system is troublesome, it benefits from a high capacity for the production of recombinant proteins. In this study, magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) were investigated as a suitable tool for the purification of proteins from the complex matrix of the silkworm fat body. The MNPs were modified with nickel so that they have an affinity for His-tagged proteins, as the MNP purification protocol itself does not need special equipment except for a magnet. Among the three different kinds of investigated MNPs, MNPs with sizes of 100 nm to 200 nm and approximately 20 nm-thick nickel shells were the most suitable for our purpose. With them, the total protein amount was reduced by up to at least approximately 77.7%, with a protein recovery of around 50.8% from the silkworm fat body. The minimum binding capacity was estimated to be 83.3 mu g protein/mg MNP. Therefore, these MNPs are a promising tool as a purification pretreatment of complex sample matrices.

Herein, via chemoselective N-mono and N,N-diarylation of an aryl/hetaryl amino amide reaction using benzyne or arynes, an amide-substituted triaryl amine derivative and diaryl amine derivatives were afforded. The scope and limitation of the present study have been studied. The products thus obtained were synthetically transformed to highly functionalized biphenyl bridged heterocycles via Suzuki coupling and condensation with 4,4-biphenyl dialdehyde. Evaluation of the photophysical properties has revealed that the triaryl amine derivatives are blue emissive with high quantum yields, whereas the heterocyclic triaryl amine derivatives are blue-red emissive. The benzofuran-derived compound 4i was found to be blue emissive with high quantum yield, whereas the pyridine-derived compound 5j was found to be red emissive with low quantum yield.

Novel indole amide derivatives C1-C10 were successfully synthesized and characterized by H-1 NMR, C-13 NMR, IR, MS, and elemental analysis, and their molecular formulas were C14H10N6O, C13H10N4O, C16H13N3O2, C19H14N2O2, C16H11N3OS, C15H13N3O, C12H9N5O, C16H10ClN3OS, C15H17N3O2, and C13H14N2O3, respectively. The primary biological activities of these compounds were evaluated in vitro by the DPPH assay, H2O2-induced oxidative stress injury assay, and cytotoxicity assay. The results indicated that compounds C1, C2, C4, C7, and C9 exhibited DPPH center dot scavenging ability, while C3, C4, C5, and C8 showed potent growth-inhibitory activities against various human tumor cells, including MDA-MB-231, Hela, A549, and HT29. Interestingly, compound C4 showed potent scavenging effects on the DPPH radical and possessed protective effect on H2O2-induced oxidative stress injury in human neuroblastoma SH-SY5Y cells at low concentrations; however, C4 exhibited significant toxicity against four human tumor cells at a higher concentration in all treatments, and the range of IC50 value was 7.91 to 13.35 mu M.

The application of phenylurea herbicides (PUHs) may lead to the extensive distribution in soils, while the role of straw biochar as a soil amendment on the transport and sorption of PUHs are still unclear. Thus, the transport and sorption behavior of three typical PUHs with rice straw biochar (RSB) was studied in both adsorption simulation experiments of aqueous solution and packed column experiments:the sorption mechanism of RSB to herbicides was investigated through batch sorption studies with three influencing factors including dosage of RSB, pH, and ionic strength (IS) with orthogonal test. The sorption coeff icients were improved significantly by increasing the dosage of RSB, while there was no obvious influence by enhancing the pH and IS value. The optimal sorption conditions (pH value at 3, IS at 0.1 M, and RSB dosage at 60 mg) of three herbicides were set and the maximum removal rates of Monuron, Diuron, and Linuron were 41.9%, 25%, and 56.8%, respectively. The co-transport process of RSB and PUHs were investigated under different RSB dosage, pH value, and IS value. The retention effect increased greatly with enhancing the RSB dosage and pH value. However, IS did not have a significant influence on the retention of RSB, and therefore it had little effect on the adsorption capacity, which was consistent with the results of sorption experiments. The breakthrough curves (BTCs) for co-transport were well simulated by the two-site non-equilibrium convection-dispersion equation (CDE). Most of the regression coefficients (R-2) were above 0.99, which uncovered the co-transport in packed column were affected by physical absorption and chemical forces. According to the fitting parameters analysis, the RSB particles and PUHs were subjected to a greater resistance and a stronger stability by reducing pH value in porous media. The presence of RSB increased the amount of dynamic sorption sites in the entire co-transport system, which led to a significant promotion of the PUHs’ sorption and interception. The development of efficient and modular synthetic methods for the synthesis of diverse collection of privileged substructures needed for a drug design and discovery campaign is highly desirable. Benzoxazepine and indolopyrazine ring systems form the core structures of distinct members of biologically significant molecules. Several members of these families have gained attention due to their broad biological activities, which depend on the type of ring-fusion and peripheral substitution patterns. Despite the potential applications of these privileged substructures in drug discovery, efficient, atom economic, and modular strategies for their access are underdeveloped. Herein, a one-step build/couple/pair strategy that uniquely allows access to diversely functionalized benzoxazepine and indolopyrazine scaffolds is described. The methodology features a one-pot combination of condensation, Mannich, oxidation, and aza-Michael addition reactions, employing a variety of functionalized anilines and aldehydes suitably poised with Micheal acceptor. Scandium triflate (Sc(OTf)(3)) in acetonitrile (ACN) was found to promote the construction of benzoxazepines scaffolds, while sodium metabisulfite (Na2S2O5) in aqueous EtOH rapidly enhanced the cascade reaction that led to diverse collections of indolopyrazine frameworks. These protocols represent modular, efficient, and atom-economic access of constrained benzoxazepine and indolopyrazine systems with more than 10 points of diversity and large substrate tolerance.

The development of methodologies for inducing and tailoring enantioselectivities of catalysts is an important issue in asymmetric catalysis. In this work, we demonstrate for the first time that chiral molecular catalysts can be boosted from completely nonselective to highly enantioselective when installed in nanostructured metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). Exfoliation of layered crystals is one of the most direct synthetic routes to unitrathin nanosheets, but its use in MOFs is limited by the availability of layered MOFs. We illustrate that layered MOFs can be designed using ligand-capped metal clusters and angular organic linkers. This leads to the synthesis of two three-dimensional (3D) layered porous MOFs from Zn-4-p-tert-butylsulfonyl calix[4]arene and chiral angular 1,1′-binaphthol/-biphenol dicarboxylic acids, which can be ultrasonic exfoliated into one- and two-layer nanosheets. The obtained MOF materials are efficient catalysts for asymmetric cascade condensation and cyclization of 2-aminobenzamide and aldehydes to produce 2,3-dihyroquinazolinones. While both binaphthol and biphenol display no enantioselectivity, restriction of their freedom in the MOFs leads to 56-90% and 46-72% ee, respectively, which are increased to 72-94% and 64-82% ee after exposure to external surfaces of the flexible nanosheets. Moreover, the MOF crystals and nanosheets exhibit highly sensitive fluorescent enhancement in the presence of chiral amino alcohols with enantioselectivity factors being, respectively, increased up to 1.4 and 2.3 times of the values of the diols, allowing them to be utilized in chiral sensing. Therefore, the observed enantioselectivities increase in the order organocatalyst < MOF crystals < MOF nanosheets in both catalysis and sensing. This work not only provides a strategy to make 3D layered MOFs and their untrathin nanosheets but also paves the way to utilize nanostructured MOFs to manipulate enantioselectivities of molecular catalysts. An efficient and convenient strategy for the synthesis of diversely substituted quinazolinones from o-carbamoyl/cyano aniline and aryl iodides using oxalic acid as a CO source under polystyrene supported palladium (Pd@PS) nanoparticles (NPs) catalyzed conditions has been developed. In this study, oxalic acid has been employed as safe, economic, environmentally benign, sustainable and bench-stable, solid CO surrogate under Double-Layer-Vial (DLV) system for the synthesis of 2-aryl quinazolinones. This methodology does not require any special high-pressure equipment like autoclaves, microwaves, etc. Moreover, a simple procedure for catalyst preparation, catalyst recyclability, easy handling of reaction, additive and base-free generation of CO, excellent to good yields and vast substrate scope are the additional features of developed protocol.

The solubility of 2-aminobenzamide in 15 pure organic solvents, including methanol, ethanol, n-propanol, isopropanol, n-butanol, isobutanol, n-pentanol, isopentanol, n-hexanol, n-octanol, acetone, ethyl acetate, acetonitrile, tetrahydrofuran, and methyl acetate, was measured using a gravimetric method over the temperature range from 273.15 to 324.15 K under atmosphere pressure. Four thermodynamic models, that is, Apelblat equation, 2,11 equation, nonrandom two-liquid equation, and Wilson equation, were applied to correlate the measured solubility data. The correlation results were evaluated by the relative average deviation. The results indicated that the mole fraction solubility increased with the rising of temperature in all 15 solvents, and the Wilson model gave the best fitting results. The experimental data and correlation models would be useful in the purification and synthesis process of 2-aminobenzamide.
