We report a set of electrochemically regulated protocols for the divergent synthesis of ketones and beta-keto esters from the same beta-hydroxycarboxylic acid starting materials. Enabled by electrochemical control, the anodic oxidation of carboxylic acids proceeded in either a one-electron or a two-electron pathway, leading to a 1,4-aryl transfer or a semipinacol-type 1,2-group transfer product with excellent chemoselectivity. The 1,4-aryl transfer represents an unprecedented example of carbon-to-oxygen group transfer proceeding via a radical mechanism. In contrast to previously reported radical group transfer reactions, this 1,4-group transfer process features the migration of electron-rich aryl substituents. Furthermore, with these chemoselective electrochemical oxidation protocols, a range of ketones and beta-keto esters including those possessing a challenging-to-access medium-sized ring could be synthesized in excellent yields.

Novel chiral secondary amines bearing a tetraoxacalix[2]arene[2]triazine scaffold were created and used for catalytic asymmetric Michael reaction of anthrone with nitroalkenes. The relevant adducts were obtained in good to excellent yields (82%-98%) and enantioselectivities (75%-98%).

The generation of a methyl carbon source from renewable and cheap sources is challenging. Herein, we describe a novel and an efficient route for methylation and acetylation of aza-heteroarenes using PEG-400 under O-2 and TsOH center dot H2O for the first time by tuning the reaction conditions using a different set of starting materials. The key features of the current protocol are oxidative C-O and C-C bond scission under metal-free conditions with good functional group tolerance, and a broad substrate scope. The potential applicability of the designed methodology was demonstrated for the synthesis of central nervous system (CNS) depressant and anticonvulsant drug molecules by a one-pot strategy.

A CF3SO2Na/Pd(OAc)(2) co-catalysis strategy was developed to produce aryl ketones via visible-light-induced decarboxylative cross-coupling of alpha-oxocarboxylic acids and aryl boronic acids. This process was performed under air at room temperature, furnishing aromatic ketones in moderate to good yields. Various sensitive functional groups were well tolerated in this reaction. Background: Aloe vera is commonly used in the primary health care of human beings since time immemorial. It is an herb widely used in various traditional systems of medicine worldwide. Systematic and scientific investigation on A. vera as a medicinal plant has drawn considerable attention, and many laboratories are involved in isolation, characterization and evaluation of phytoconstituents for their nutraceutical and pharmaceutical applications. Purpose: The aim of this study was to provide an overview of the phytochemical, biological and medicinal attributes of A. vera against various diseases with special emphasis on underlying mechanisms of action. Methods: PubMed, EBOSCO host, Science Direct, Scopus, and Cochrane library databases were utilized to search literature published between1977 and 2019 (fill March). Major keywords used in various combinations included: Aloe vera, phytochemistry, metabolism, pharmacological activity, prevention, treatment, health, disease, in vivo, in vitro, and clinical studies. Results: Various biological and pharmacological activities of A. vera, such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, immuno-modulatory, antimicrobial, antiviral, antidiabetic, hepatoprotective, anticancer, and skin-protective and wound-healing responses, have been attributed to the presence of many active compounds, including anthraquinones, anthrones, chromones, flavonoids, amino acids, lipids, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals. Conclusion: Based on various preclinical studies, A. vera constituents have enormous potential to prevent and treat various diseases. Randomized clinical trials are needed to understand the full therapeutic potential of this unique medicinal plant.

Most of the known methods for the synthesis of heterocyclic compounds have disadvantages, such as a long reaction time and aggressive conditions. We have developed a new, rather simple and efficient method for the synthesis of a number of glycoluryls and hydantoins in water using a etidronic acid (HEDP) as Green catalyst. So, for the first time, the condensation reaction of ureas with 1, 2-dicarbonyl compounds was carried out in the presence of HEDP. Also based on NMR studies, a chemism of these reactions, which is stepwise, is proposed. It has been established that the optimal conditions for the synthesis of glycoluryls and hydantoins using HEDP are: temperature 80 degrees C-90 degrees C, 40-20 minutes, and the ratio of urea and HEDP is 1:1. In all cases, the remaining aqueous filtrate containing HEDP after the reaction can be reused for other cycles synthesis of glycoluril and other compounds, because HEDP is not converted during the reaction.

A perylenediimide (PDI) tetramer non-fullerene small molecule acceptor consisting of four PDI units linked to tertraphenylethylene (TPhE) central moiety at their beta-positions, denoted as TPhEPDI-4 was designed and synthesized. TPhEPDI-4 was combined with polymeric donor PTB7-Th to fabricate the polymer solar cells. TPhEPDI-4 exhibits an absorption profile ranging from 300 to 630 nm, which is complementary with the PTB7Th, and the blend PTB7-Th: TPhEPDI-4 exhibits the absorption profile from 300 to 830 nm. The optimized solvent vapor annealed bulk heterojunction-based polymer solar cells showed overall power conversion efficiency of about 10.34% (with a high open-circuit voltage of 1.04 V and voltage loss of 0.53 eV), which is higher than that for the as-cast counterpart (6.12%). The improvement in the power conversion efficiency for solvent vapor annealed active layer-based polymer solar cell is originated from higher and balanced charge carrier mobilities suppressed by bimolecular recombination linked with efficient charge transport. The X-ray diffraction confirms the denser and ordered molecular packing after the solvent vapor annealing as well as crystal coherence length in the PTB7-Th: TPhEPDI-4 film.
