A novel and rapid voltammetric assay for the simultaneous determination of monolinuron (MLN) and linuron (LIN) using an electrochemically pretreated pencil graphite electrode (PGE*) is reported for the first time. Enhanced oxidation peak currents of MLN and LIN were observed at PGE* when compared with electrochemically non-pretreated PGE. Differential pulse voltammetric (DPV) results showed distinct anodic peaks at 1.064 V and 1.170 V for MLN and LIN, respectively. Under optimum conditions, the detection limits were 3.7 x 10(-7) mol L-1 and 5.8 x 10(-7) mol L-1 for MLN and LIN respectively. The DPV method was applied for the quantitative determination of the mentioned compounds in spiked tap water samples enriched by solid phase extraction. The voltammetric results were in good agreement with high-performance liquid chromatography data.

In this study, new tri-amides 5a-1 have been synthesized via a one-pot four-component Ugi reaction between repaglinide, aniline derivatives, aldehyde derivatives, and cyclohexyl isocyanide in good yields. These compounds were evaluated against yeast alpha-glucosidase. Obtained in vitro alpha-glucosidase results demonstrated that all the synthesized compounds 5a-1 were more potent than standard inhibitor acarbose. Among them, the most potent compounds were compounds 5j, 5k, and 5h. The kinetic analysis of the most potent compound 5j revealed that this compound is a competitive inhibitor for alpha-glucosidase (K-i = 24 mu M). Furthermore, docking study of the most potent compounds was also performed in the alpha-glucosidase active site to find interaction modes and binding energies of these compounds. Background Non-neoplastic anal sac disorders (ASD) are frequent presentations for dogs in primary-care practice but evidence-based information on disease occurrence and risk is sparse. This study estimates prevalence, breed associations and other risk factors as well as reporting on clinical management. Methods A cohort study of dogs attending VetCompass practices between 1 January 2013 and 31 December 2013. Risk factor analysis used multivariable logistic regression methods. Results Of 104,212 dogs attending 110 UK practices, the 1-year period prevalence of ASD was 4.40% (95% CI: 4.22-4.57). Compared to crossbreds, six breeds showed increased odds of ASD (Cavalier King Charles spaniel, King Charles spaniel, Cockapoo, Shih-tzu, Bichon Frise and Cocker spaniel), and six breeds showed reduced odds (Labrador Retriever, Border collie, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Lurcher, German Shepherd Dog and Boxer). Brachycephalic types had 2.6 times the odds for ASD compared to dolichocephalic types. Medication prescribed for ASD included antimicrobials (n = 480, 20.24%) and analgesics (n = 284, 11.97%). Anal sacculectomy was performed in under 1% of cases. Conclusions High prevalence, strong breed predispositions and evidence of severity suggested from the antimicrobial and analgesic therapies combined with current substantial knowledge gaps identify ASD as a key research-neglected syndrome in dogs.

Catalyst-free photoinduced processes in aqueous medium represent significant advancement toward development of green and sustainable pathways in organic synthesis. tert-Butyl hydroperoxide (TBHP) is a widely used oxidant in organic reactions, where the decomposition of TBHP into its radicals by metal catalysts or other reagents is a key factor for efficient catalytic outcome. Herein, we report a simple and environmentally friendly visible light-promoted synthetic pathway for the synthesis of N-heterocyclic moieties, such as quinazolinones and quinoxalines, in the presence of TBHP as an oxidizing agent in aqueous medium that requires no catalysts/photocatalysts. The enhanced rate of decomposition to generate free radicals from TBHP upon visible light irradiation is the driving force for the domino reaction.

10,10-Bis[4-(4-aminophenoxy)-3-methylphenyl]-9(10H)-anthrone, as a novel aromatic diamine, was synthesized from anthrone by three-step process. A series of polyimides containing methyl substituents and 9(10H)-anthrone pendant groups was prepared from this diamine with various aromatic dianhydridesviathe poly(amic acid) (PAA) precursors and subsequent thermal or chemical imidization procedure. Inherent viscosities of PAAs are between 0.87 and 1.58 dL/g, and the corresponding polyimides have the weight-average molecular weight and number-average molecular weight in the range of 49,400-64,200 and 28,700-37,700, respectively. Most of the polyimides obtained through the chemical cyclodehydration method are soluble in NMP, DMF, DMAc, Py andm-cresol at room temperature. These polyimides have glass transition temperatures of 289-313 degrees C, 10% weight loss temperatures of 484-524 degrees C, char yields of 55-63% at 800 degrees C, and temperature at the maximum-rate degradation of 560-584 degrees C in nitrogen, respectively. The polyimide films obtained through the thermal imidization have tensile strength of 76.43-119.74 MPa, elongation at break of 6.93-12.33%, and tensile modulus of 1.91-2.38 GPa.

Due to the redox properties closely related to numerous physiological and pathological processes, biothiols, including cysteine (Cys), homocysteine (Hcy) and glutathione (GSH), have received considerable attention in biological science. On account of the important physiological roles of these biothiols, it is of profound significance to develop sensitive and selective detection of biothiols to understand their biological profiles. In this work, we reported an efficient fluorescent probe, PHPQ-SH, for detecting biothiols in vitro and vivo, based on the phenothiazine-HPQ skeleton, with DNBS (2,4-dinitrobenzenesulfonate) as the response unit. Probe PHPQ-SH exhibited brilliant sensing performances toward thiols, including a large Stokes shift (138 nm), excellent sensitivity (for GSH, LOD = 18.3 nM), remarkable fluorescence enhancement (163-fold), low cytotoxicity, rapid response (8 min), and extraordinary selectivity. Finally, the probe PHPQ-SH illustrated herein was capable of responding and visualizing biothiols in MCF-7 cells and zebrafish.

To explore new skeleton with nematicidal activity, a series of novel 1,2,3-benzotriazin-4-one derivatives containing piperazine as linker were synthesized and varied fragments were also introduced to increase structure diversity of the new skeleton. Their inhibitory activities in vivo were evaluated against Meloidogyne incognita. The newly prepared compounds A6, A8, A21, A28 and A38 exhibited more than 50% inhibition at the concentration of 20 mg/L. Especially compound A6 displayed 71.4% inhibition against Meloidogyne incognita at the concentration of 20 mg/L. The nematicidal activities varied significantly depending on the types and positions of the substituents, which provided guidance for further structure modification.
