Background: Dementia, as a global public health problem, is becoming increasingly serious. As a precursor of dementia, mild cognitive impairment (MCI) plays an important role in the diagnosis and prevention of dementia. Recent studies have found a correlation between gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT) levels and cognitive function in men. The relationship between GGT levels and cognitive function in women remains unclear because GGT activity and expression differ between the sexes. Method: We recruited a total of 2,943 Chinese women from Jidong and Taian in 2019. We grouped the participants according to GGT levels, diagnosed MCI using the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MOCA) scale, and modeled the study outcomes using logistic regression to explore the relationship between GGT level and MCI. We also analyzed the interaction of obesity, sleep duration, and hyperuricemia with GGT in the development of MCI. Results: The prevalence of MCI increased with increasing GGT level, from the lowest quartile to the highest quartile of GGT: 8.4% (66/786), 14.2% (119/840), 17.6% (108/613), and 21.4% (151/704), respectively. At the same time, as GGT levels increased, so did the risk of MCI. In the fully adjusted model, compared with those for participants in the lowest GGT quartiles, the odds ratios (ORs), and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for MCI for participants in the second, third, and fourth GGT quartiles were 1.49 (1.04-2.12), 1.53(1.06-2.21), and 1.88 (1.33-2.65), respectively. The risk of developing MCI was further increased in people with high GGT levels who were obese (OR = 1.96, 95% CI: 1.39-2.76, P < 0.001), slept less (OR = 1.91, 95% CI: 1.35-2.71, P < 0.001), had high levels of uric acid (OR = 1.55, 95% CI: 1.03-2.32, P < 0.001), or after menopause (OR = 2.92, 95% CI: 2.07-4.12, P < 0.001). Conclusion: We found that MCI is more common in women with elevated GGT levels, so GGT could be a potential diagnostic marker for MCI. Meanwhile, our findings indicated that women with high GGT levels had an increased risk of MCI when they were obese, sleep deprived, had high serum uric acid (SUA) levels or underwent menopause. The development of environmentally benign synthetic protocols has attracted increasing attention in recent organic syntheses. As a part of this concept, our group synthesized a new natural deep eutectic solvent (NADES) by using gabapentin and choline chloride. After characterization by FTIR, H-1 and C-13 NMR, and mass spectra, the prepared NADES was utilized as an efficacious catalyst for the synthesis of 4H-pyran scaffolds such as tetrahydrobenzo[b]pyran and pyrano[2,3-d]pyrimidinone(thione) derivatives. The use of inexpensive and bio-compatible reagents for the synthesis of the catalyst, a simple and green procedure for the preparation of the catalyst and products, short reaction times, high yields of the products, and applicability to large-scale synthesis are the prominent features of this protocol. Also, the catalyst could be recovered easily and recycled up to five times without significant loss of its catalytic activity.

In this paper, we report a feasible protocol for the preparation of [1]benzopyranopyrido[d]pyrimidines via expeditious sonochemical route. The reaction efficiency was evaluated by influence of several parameters including sonication power, sonication time, different solvents, and using porous graphene/MoO3 nanocomposite as catalyst, for the first time. The effect of the ultrasonication comparing with the conventional heating on the synthesis of the titled compounds shows that the ultrasonic irradiation is required to rich the cyclized products. The structural properties of porous graphene/MoO3 nanocomposite were determined by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), powder X-ray diffractometry (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), Raman spectroscopy, and also by TGA analysis. Confirmation of the structures of compounds 4a-4h were also established with IR, H-1 NMR, and C-13 NMR spectroscopic data and also by elemental analyses.

In view of the disadvantages of concentration polarization and trade-off effects in the application of membrane in desalination field, oxide-nano graphene oxide/polyamide (O-NGO/PA) loose intermediate layer and PA ultra-thin dense layer were introduced to fabricate PA/O-NGO/polyphenylene sulfide composite membrane with sandwich structure via multi-step interfacial polymerization (MS-IP) method. The selective permeation mechanism of ultrathin layer produced by different aqueous monomers (PIP and MPD) was studied, the effect of its physicochemical structure on the relief of concentration polarization phenomenon and the breakthrough of trade-off effect was analyzed. The ultra-thin and dense PA layer mainly played the role of interception and shortened the water molecular penetration path. In the retention test of metal salt solution, compared with the rough surface, it was found that the smooth surface was more conducive to the diffusion of intercepted metal ions into the feed solution, thus alleviating the concentration polarization phenomenon.

The rapid and effective removal of organic micropollutants (OMPs) from water remains a huge challenge for traditional water treatment techniques. Compared with powder adsorbents such as polymers and nanomaterials, the free-standing adsorptive membrane is possible for large-scale applications and shows promise in removing OMPs. Herein, inspired by aquatic plants, a novel free-standing adsorptive membrane (NPPM) with high water flux, strong adsorption affinity, and excellent reproducibility was prepared by one-step UV surface grafting. N-Vinylformamide (NVF) was employed to introduce multiple hydrophilic and hydrogen bonding sites on the surface of commercial polypropylene fiber membranes (PPM). The NPPM exhibits excellent water permeability and ultrahigh water flux (up to 40 000 L/(m(2) h)) and could continuously remove a broad spectrum of OMPs from water. Its adsorption performance is 5-100 times higher than that of PPM and commercial membranes. Even in natural water sources such as tap water and river water, the NPPM shows unchanged adsorption performance and high OMPs removal efficiency (>95%). Notably, the NPPM has excellent regeneration performance and can be regenerated by hot water elution, which provides an environmentally friendly regeneration method without involving any organic solvent. Moreover, the synergy between hydrogen bonding and hydrophobic interaction is revealed, and the hydrophobic interaction provided by the hydrophobic substrate is proved to play a fundamental role in OMPs adsorption. The strong hydrogen bonds between the grafts and the OMPs are demonstrated by variable-temperature FTIR spectroscopy (vt-FTIR), C-13 nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (C-13 NMR), and simulation calculations. The strong hydrogen bonds could increase the enthalpy change and enhance the adsorption affinity, so the NPPM has a strong adsorption affinity, which is 100 times that of similar adsorption membranes. This study not only presents an adsorptive membrane with great commercial potential in the rapid remediation of a water source but also opens a pathway to develop an adsorptive membrane with high water flux and strong adsorption affinity.

Three new arene-ruthenium(II) complexes were prepared by treating [{RuCl(mu-Cl)(eta(6)-arene)}(2)] (eta(6)-arene = p-cymene) dimer with tri(2-furyl)phosphine (PFu(3)) and 1,3,5-triaza-7-phosphaadamantane (PTA), respectively to obtain [RuCl2(eta(6)-arene)PFu(3)] [Ru] -1, (RuCl(eta(6)-arene)(PFu(3))(PTA)]BF4 [Ru] -2 and HtuCl(eta(6)-arene)(PFu(3))(2)]BF4 [Ru] -3. All the complexes were structurally identified using analytical and spectroscopic methods including single-crystal X-ray studies. The effectiveness of resulting complexes as potential homogeneous catalysts for selective hydration of different nitriles into corresponding amides in aqueous medium and air atmosphere was explored. There was a remarkable difference in catalytic activity of the catalysts depending on the nature and number of phosphorus-donor ligands and sites available for catalysis. Experimental studies performed using structural analogues of efficient catalyst concluded a structural-activity relationship for the higher catalytic activity of [Ru] -1, being able to convert huge variety of aromatic, heteroaromatic and aliphatic nitriles. The use of eco-friendly water as a solvent, open atmosphere and avoidance of any organic solvent during the catalytic reactions prove the reported process to be truly green and sustainable.

An efficient green method has been developed for the cascade multi-component Hantzsch reaction of acridinediones and biscoumarins using Fe3O4@SiO2@Ni-Zn-Fe layered double hydroxide (LDH). Nano Ni-Zn-Fe LDH immobilized on silica-layered magnetite was synthesized via a simple co-precipitation procedure, and characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The nanocatalyst has the usual features of Fe3O4@SiO2 and Ni-Zn-Fe LDH. Moreover, it contains magnetism properties which is related to the presence of magnetite in the nanocatalyst and can be easily separated from the reaction mixture with an external magnetic field. Subsequently, the nanomagnetic-LDH was used to evaluate catalytic activity with the tandem synthesis of acridinedione and biscoumarin derivatives. The mesoporous catalyst showed excellent performance for multi-component reactions between aromatic aldehydes, 4-hydroxycoumarin, and dimedone and ammonium acetate. Acridinediones were provided within 15-35 min in 80-96% yields under solvent-free conditions in 70-80 degrees C and also, biscoumarins were obtained within 1-40 min in 87-95% yields under reflux conditions in water. The present study includes noteworthy advantages of mild reaction conditions, short times of reaction, absence of hazardous and expensive organic solvents and reagents, presence of water as an eco-friendly solvent, using green nanomagnetic-LDH and the ability to recycle the nanocatalyst.

Herein, the facile photografting coating method was used to develop a novel metal biochelator film by covalent immobilization of citric acid (CA) onto polypropylene (PP) surface. First, PP film underwent a surface modification by UV-grafting of glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) in the presence of benzophenone (BP). The concentrations of GMA (bifunctional monomer) and BP (photoinitiator) were appropriately optimized to achieve the breath-figure-array structure and brush-like grafting configuration with a high availability of the reactive oxirane ring. Subsequently, CA was immobilized onto the PP-g-GMA surface via the ring-opening reaction to obtain the biochelator film (PP-g-GMA-g-CA). Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy and solid state C-13 nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy elucidated the chemical structure and grafting mechanism of grafted samples. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy was used to detect the chemical composition of the surface of the grafted samples, by which the grafting density was relatively estimated. In addition, the uniformity of the grafting pattern and morphology of the grafting unit were observed using scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy. Furthermore, the carboxylic acid density of the biochelator film (PP-g-GMA-g-CA) was quantified using a toluidine blue O assay, in which approximately 327 +/- 58 nM carboxylic acid was detected per each film. The metal chelating activity of the film was also investigated using the colorimetric ferrozine assay, by which PP-g-GMA-g-CA film chelated approximately 215 +/- 11 nM of Fe3+. Therefore, this newly developed system can be used as a versatile metal biochelator in a wide range of biomedical, cosmetic, and packaging applications.
