Four silver-based coordination polymers, {[Ag(L)(2)](BF4)}(infinity) (1), {[Ag(H2BTC)(L)]center dot(H3BTC)}(infinity) (2), {[Ag-2(H2BTEC)(L)(2)]..3.33H(2)O}(infinity) (3), and [Ag(H(25)SSA)(L)](infinity) (4), were synthesized using thiomorpholine-4-carbonitrile (L) as the primary ligand and three aromatic polyoxoacids as coligands: trimesic (H3BTC), pyromellitic (H4BTEC), and 5-sulfosalicylic acid (H(35)SSA). Electrochemical examination of mixed-ligand cobalt(III) complexes with tetraazamacrocyclic ligand and heterocyclic dithiocarbamates

Electrochemical stability of eight complexes of the general formula [Co(III)Rdtc(1-8)cyclam](ClO4)(2), where cyclam = 1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane and Rdtc(-) (1-8) = 4-morpholine (Morphdtc), 4-thiomorpholine (Timdtc), 4-piperazine (Pzdtc), N-methyl piperazine (N-Mepzdtc), piperidine (Pipdtc), 2-, 3- or 4-methylpiperidine (2-, 3- or 4-Mepipdtc) dithiocarbamates, respectively, were studied. The substances were examined in aqueous NaClO4 solution and nonaqueous LiClO4 in CH3CN solution by cyclic voltammetry. In aqueous solution, macrocyclic ligand cyclam is characterized by the anodic peak at 0.95 V. The Rdtc(-) ligands have two anodic peaks, one in the region 0.25-0.30 V and the other in the 0.78-0.95 V region. Absence of these anodic peaks in the case of the complexes indicates that coordination to cobalt(III) stabilizes both cyclam and Rdtc(-) ligands, but reversible peaks in the range -0.68 to -0.78 V support the Co(III) redox reaction. In nonaqueous solutions cyclam has one anodic peak at 1.75 V. The ligands with heteroatom in the ring (Morphdtc, Timdtc, Pzdtc, N-Mepzdtc) have two anodic peaks, while the other four ligands (Pipdtc, 2-, 3- and 4-Mepipdtc) have only one anodic peak. In nonaqueous solution again, coordination to Co(III) ion stabilizes the Rdtc(-) ligands and contrary to aqueous solution no Co(III) redox reaction occurs, indicating a greater stability of the complexes in this media. Finally, the electrochemical results are compared with spectroscopic data obtained previously.

The stereodynamic behaviour of 1-(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)piperidine 1, 4-(trifluoromethylsulfonyl) morpholine 2, 1,4-bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)piperazine 3 and 4-(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)thiomorpholine 1,1-dioxide 4 was studied by low-temperature H-1, C-13 and F-19 NMR spectroscopies. In acetone solution, compounds 1, 2 and 4 were found to exist as mixtures of two conformers in the ratio of 4:1,4:1 and 8:1, respectively, differing by orientation of the CF3 group with respect to the ring. Compound 3 exists as a mixture of three conformers in the ratio of 3:28:69 also differing by the orientation of the two CF3 groups. Unlike the previously studied N-trifyl substituted 1,3,5-triheterocyclohexanes, the preferred conformers of compound 1 and of 1,4-diheterocyclohexanes 2-4 are those with the CF3 group directed outward from the ring, which is caused by intramolecular interactions of the oxygen atoms of the CF3SO2N groups with the equatorial hydrogens in the a-position. B3LYP/6-311+G(d,p) calculations of the energy, geometry and NMR parameters corroborate the experimental data. The calculated Perlin effects for all conformers of compounds 1-4 as well as those measured for the major conformers of compounds 3 and 4 were analyzed by the use of the NBO analysis. Framework deformation of the microporous vanadium benzenedicarboxylate MIL-47 upon absorption of organosulfur molecules

Deformation of the microporous MIL-47 framework VO(bdc), bdc = 1,4-benzenedicarboxylate, upon absorption of carbon disulfide, tetrahydrothiophene, thiomorpholine and thioxane is investigated by single crystal X-ray diffraction. Intercalation of CS2 significantly expands the channel opening by a breathing deformation mode of the framework characterized solely by a cooperative translation of the octahedral chains, in contrast to intercalation of many other molecules that usually cause contraction of the channel opening. Upon loading of CS2 the short diagonal of the rhombic channel expanded by 0.91 angstrom and the maximum spherical void diameter increases to 8.0 angstrom from 7.6 angstrom of VO(bdc) with empty channels. Loading of the three cyclic organosulfur molecules all results in a strong twisting deformation of the framework featured by cooperative rotation of the octahedral chains by 21.3 degrees-28.2 degrees, bending of the bdc ligand and lowering of the space group symmetry from Pnma to P2(1)2(1)2(1). The maximum spherical void diameter of the framework decreases to 6.8 angstrom from 7.6 angstrom upon intercalation of tetrahydrothiophene or thiomorpholine, and to 6.0 angstrom upon intercalation of thioxane. Intercalation of thioxane leads to the highest degree of twisting known for the VO(bdc) framework combined with a substantial breathing contraction of the channel. Complexation of Constrained Ligands Piperazine, N-substituted Piperazines, and Thiomorpholine
