In this study, we describe the synthesis and molecular properties of anthranilamide-based short peptides which were synthesised via ring opening of isatoic anhydride in excellent yields. These short peptides were incorporated as low molecular weight gelators (LMWG), bola amphiphile, and C-3-symmetric molecules to form hydrogels in low concentrations (0.07-0.30% (w/v)). The critical gel concentration (CGC), viscoelastic properties, secondary structure, and fibre morphology of these short peptides were influenced by the aromaticity of the capping group or by the presence of electronegative substituent (namely fluoro) and hydrophobic substituent (such as methyl) in the short peptides. In addition, the hydrogels showed antibacterial activity against S. aureus 38 and moderate toxicity against HEK cells in vitro.

WRKY transcription factors participate in the salt stress responses of various plant species, but the underlying functional mechanisms are not well understood, particularly in grape. In this study, the role of VvWRKY13 in the salt stress response was characterized and the underlying physiological and molecular mechanisms were explored. The results show that VvWRKY13 expression was induced by salt stress, and the VvWRKY13 transcript level in the salt stress-sensitive cultivar was significantly higher than that in the resistant cultivars. Overexpression of VvWRKY13 in Arabidopsis significantly inhibited the growth of transgenic plants under salt stress, indicating that VvWRKY13 has a negative effect on the salt stress response. The photosynthetic rate, contents of proline and soluble sugars, activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT), as well as transcriptional levels of proline and soluble sugar metabolic genes, such as P5CS1, SS1, SS2 and G6PDH, as well as SOD and CAT encoding genes CAT1, CAT2, and Cu/Zn-SOD, all decreased under salt stress, whereas hydrogen peroxide and oxygen-free radical contents increased in transgenic Arabidopsis plants compared with those of wild-type plants. VvWRKY13 suppressed upregulation of SnRK2.3, ABF1, ABF2, ABF3, RD29B, RD29A, and RAB18 induced by salt stress, but showed no significant effect on the transcript levels of SnRK2.2, SnRK2.6, or RD22, indicating that VvWRKY13 affects salt stress tolerance via a specific abscisic acid signaling pathway. Key message VvWRKY13, isolated from grapevine, negatively regulate salt stress tolerance by depressing photosynthetic capacity, inhibiting salt-induced accumulation of osmolytes andup-regulation in antioxidant activity as well as expression of related genes. VvWRKY13 may affects salt stress tolerance by specific ABA signalling.

Titanium-magnesium catalysts (TMCs) of propylene polymerization have been synthesized in the presence of ketones as internal donors. The molar ratio of titanium chloride to ketone in TMCs was found to depend on the structure of ketone. The composition and catalytic properties of the synthesized TMCs in propylene polymerization were significantly different from those of TMCs prepared without ketone. The TMCs were synthesized by replacing ketones with a stereoregulating donor dibutyl phthalate (DBP, DBP/Mg = 0.05 mol/mol). It was shown that ketones were substituted by phthalate; the crystallite size of MgCl2 (similar to 6.5 nm in the 110 direction) did not change. The data on the molar ratio Ti/donor = 2 for different donors (ketone, phthalate) and the same MgCl2 crystallites are consistent with the predominance of 104 lateral cuts. The catalytic properties of the substituted catalysts are almost independent of the type of ketone used and are close to those of the standard TMC obtained with phthalate alone (DBP/Mg = 0.2 mol/mol) during the formation of MgCl2. Therefore, ketones, like esters, are involved in the formation of magnesium chloride. Their subsequent substitution by phthalate allows synthesis of TMCs with high activity and stereospecificity.

A nickel-catalyzed reductive decyanation of aromatic nitriles has been developed, in which the readily available and abundant ethanol was applied as the hydride donor. Various functional groups on the aromatic rings, such as alkoxyl, amino, imino and amide, were compatible in this catalytic protocol. Heteroaryl, benzylic and alkenyl nitriles were also tolerated. Mechanistic investigation indicated that ethanol provided hydride efficiently via beta-hydride elimination in this reductive decyanation.

In the present study, a facile technique to immobilize praseodymium(iii) complex on the surface of magnetic nanoparticles by using available materials is reported. The prepared samples were characterized by chemical and physical methods such as FTIR, SEM, XRD and EDX and were tested in the synthesis of polyhydroquinoline and 2,3-dihydroquinazolin-4(1H)-one derivatives. It was observed that the yields of the reactions in the presence of the prepared nanocatalyst were good to excellent. More importantly, the use of a recoverable and novel magnetic nanocatalyst in these reactions is the outstanding feature of this protocol.

One-pot synthesis of isoindole fused quinazolin 4-ones via intramolecular 1,3 hydride transfer in the presence of acid catalyst has been described. Forty-eight analogues of CP-31398, an antitumor agent modulated the mutant p53 gene were synthesized and their cytotoxicities against four cancer cell lines with different p-53 status including bladder cell 724 (w-p53), gastric cell MGC-803 (m-p53), prostate cell DU145 (m-p53), prostate cell PC-3 (null-p53), lung cell A549 (w-p53) and normal liver cell line HL-7702 (w-p53) were examined.
