[1,2,4]Triazolo[3,4-b]quinazolin-5(1H)-ones with varied functionalization patterns were synthesized in a regioselective manner by reacting 2-thioxo-2,3-dihydroquinazolin-4(1H)-one (2) with variously functionalized hydrazonoyl chlorides (38h). Linear regioselectivity of the formed products was confirmed by X-ray measurements. Under microwave conditions, the reactions were completed in a few minutes without a change in the regioselectivity.

In this study, a new fluorescence probe HMAQ based on quinazoline and diaminomaleonitrile was constructed for sensing ClO- and Al3+. A fluorescence blue-shift with 102 nm together with a color change from golden-yellow to colorless was found by hypochlorite-induced hydrolysis of -CH = N- group to release the initial fluorophore. Besides, Al3+ could cause a 72-nm blue-shifted emission spectra and a color change from golden-yellow to brown. As expected, HMAQ exhibited a satisfactory selectivity and sensitivity to ClO-/Al3+ with a quick response. Most notably, the reversibility of the [HMAQ+Al3+] complex could be used to detect ClO- and Al3+ simultaneously without mutual interferences. The detection limits of HMAQ for ClO- and Al3+ were turned out to be 102 nM and 1.56 nM, respectively. The high-performance results of real-time detections demonstrated the enormous potential of HMAQ in real-water samples and living cells. (C) 2020 Published by Elsevier B.V.

Purpose: To synthesize and characterize some new gabapentin Schiff base derivatives, and to assess their antibacterial, antioxidant and antiepileptic activities. Methods: Four Schiff base derivatives of gabapentin, termed G1, G2, G3 and G4, were synthesized by condensation with benzoin, vanillin, acetophenone, and benzophenone, respectively. Their chemical identities were established by FTIR, H-1 NMR and C-13 NMR techniques. The new compounds were screened for antibacterial activity using agar well method, antioxidant activity by DPPH assay, and anticonvulsant activity against pentylenetetrazole (PTZ) induced seizures in mice. Results: All the compounds showed antibacterial activity against the test strains to variable degrees, while the parent drug did not exhibit antibacterial activity. The zones of inhibition of compound G2 against Micrococcus luteus (36.2 +/- 1.0 mm) and Serratia marcescens (28.2 +/- 1.0 mm), and of compound G4 against Stenotrophomonas maltophilia (36.8 +/- 1.0 mm) were larger compared to the standard drug, doxycycline, exhibiting zones of inhibition 28.2 +/- 1.3, 28.2 +/- 0.9 and 20.0 +/- 0.9 mm, respectively. In addition, compounds G1 and G2 possessed significantly greater (p < 0.05) radical scavenging activity (82.3 +/- 1.8 and 92.3 +/- 2.2 %, respectively) than the precursor drug, gabapentin (63.2 +/- 2.6 %). The seizure scores for compounds GI (0.7 +/- 0.06) and G2 (0.9 +/- 0.07) were comparable (p > 0.05) with gabapentin (0.8 +/- 0.06), while compounds G3 and G4 were less active (p < 0.05) than gabapentin. Conclusion: Compounds G1 and G2 exhibit good antibacterial and antioxidant activities while retaining the anticonvulsant activity of the parent drug, gabapentin, thus making them suitable candidates for further development for the treatment of neurodegenerative pathologies associated with bacterial infections. An efficient and convenient strategy for the synthesis of diversely substituted quinazolinones from o-carbamoyl/cyano aniline and aryl iodides using oxalic acid as a CO source under polystyrene supported palladium (Pd@PS) nanoparticles (NPs) catalyzed conditions has been developed. In this study, oxalic acid has been employed as safe, economic, environmentally benign, sustainable and bench-stable, solid CO surrogate under Double-Layer-Vial (DLV) system for the synthesis of 2-aryl quinazolinones. This methodology does not require any special high-pressure equipment like autoclaves, microwaves, etc. Moreover, a simple procedure for catalyst preparation, catalyst recyclability, easy handling of reaction, additive and base-free generation of CO, excellent to good yields and vast substrate scope are the additional features of developed protocol.

In this study, five new pyrimidine derivatives were synthesized and characterized by characterization methods such as H-1-NMR, C-13-NMR, FT-IR and elemental analysis. The corrosion inhibition activity of the synthesized compounds was examined by theoretical calculation using DFT method at the level of B3LYP/6-31G (d,p). According to the calculations, 4-(6-benzoyl-2-benzylidene-3-oxo-7-phenyl-2,3-dihydro-5H-thiazolo[3,2-a]pyrimidin-5-yl)-benzoic acid (6) appears to be a good inhibitor for corrosion.

An HMPA catalyzed reductive alkylation of ureas and thioureas with trichlorosilane under mild reaction conditions has been developed. Both aldehydes and ketones could be used as efficient alkylation reagents in this method to obtain the desired products in moderate to high yields. A variety of di- and trisubsituted ureas and thioureas were easily prepared by this new reductive alkylation method. Ball milling of calcium carbide (CaC2) enables the reaction of its ethynyl moiety with organic electrophiles. A class of zwitterionic organocatalysts based on an amide anion/iminium cation charge pair has been developed. The zwitterions are easily prepared by reacting aziridines with aminopyridines. They are catalytically applicable to transesterifications and dehydrative esterifications. This study reports an innovative pathway for successfully synthesizing composite panels using various waste input. For this purpose, seven types of powder from waste or widely available filler i.e. Quartz off-cut, sand, waste seashell, dolomite, limestone aggregates, concrete waste and limestone dust were used. The study aims to assess the effectiveness and mechanical properties of the various waste powder in the production of powder-resin composites. The panels were then compared with the novel polymeric glass composite (PGC) in the previous study (Heriyanto et al., 2018). Following the same procedure in PGC, the filler was individually grounded to 64-108 mu m and chemically treated with amino silane coupling agent (CA). The powder filler (untreated or treated) is then mixed with the resin binder with a ratio of 80/20 respectively, followed by hot pressing the mixture at the pressure of 550 bar at 65 degrees C for 1 h. The final composite slab is then further cut for mechanical testing. It was found in the study that when CA was not added, surface roughness of the powder particles affected the flexural strength of the final panel significantly. High surface roughness particles such as in Quartz, sand and seashell adhere effectively with the resin binder which led to higher strength. On the contrary, other factors like smooth particle morphology in glass, dolomite and limestone as well as porous structure in concrete and clump of very fine powder in limestone dust degrade the strength of the final panels. With CA addition, adhesion between resin and powder filler were improved significantly. Flexural strength after the CA treatment was found to be much affected by particle characteristics. Silica-based panels i.e. quartz, sand and glass which consist of high strength and hardness of silica particles perform better compared to that of calcium carbonate-based panels. Compression strength, toughness, stiffness, scratch resistance, density and water absorption were also reported in this study. The properties of all the treated panels are found to be comparable, or if not, much better than natural stones. These new approaches of using waste filler in powder – resin based composites can be a new alternative to produce green materials that deliver economic and environmental benefits.
