Solid-state electrolytes are regarded as the ?key? materials for enabling the usage of lithium metal in high energy density lithium battery systems. However, recent reports suggest lithium dendrites still exist in solid-state electrolytes after cycling. Moreover, due to the low concentration of lithium dendrite inside solid-state electrolyte and the unique characteristic of lithium, conventional methods such as EDS (Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectroscopy) cannot detect lithium. Analyzing lithium dendrite in solid-state electrolyte usually requires complicated and expensive equipment such as neutron diffraction, which brings extra barrier to explore the mechanism of growth of lithium dendrite in the solid-state electrolyte and exploring the solution to this problem. In this work, we report a simple and effective method to visualize the existence of lithium metal inside solid-state electrolytes in very early stage. This method may benefit the exploration of the growth mechanism of lithium dendrite inside solid-state electrolytes and solving this problem eventually.

In this study, a combined experimental and theoretical study of the nonlinear optical properties (NLO) of two chalcone derivatives, (E)-3-(2-methoxyphenyl)-1-(2-(phenylsulfonylamine)phenyl)prop-2-en-1-one (MPSP) and (E)-3-(3-nitrophenyl)-1-(2-(phenylsulfonylamine)phenyl)prop-2-en-1-one (NPSP), in DMSO is reported. The single crystal structures of the compounds, which differ only by the type and position of one substituent, were grown using the slow evaporation technique, and the main structural differences are discussed. The two-photon absorption and first-order hyperpolarizability measurements were performed via the Z-scan technique and hyper-Rayleigh scattering experiment in DMSO. The theoretical calculations were performed using the Density Functional Theory (DFT) at the CAM-B3LYP/6-311++G(d,p) level, and the sum-over-states (SOS) approach in both static and dynamic cases. Besides the electron conjugation achieved by the aromatic rings, olefins, and carbonyl groups, both compounds have a nearly flat chalcone backbone, which is believed to contribute to the nonlinear optical properties. MPSP and NPSP have different positions, even though they have roughly the same conformation and form C-HMIDLINE HORIZONTAL ELLIPSISO interactions. For several studied frequencies, the HRS first hyperpolarizability values for MPSP are greater than those for NPSP, indicating that in most cases the NLO properties of MPSP are better. The comparison among the theoretical and experimental HRS first hyperpolarizability results showed a good agreement. In addition, the two-dimensional second order nonlinear optical spectra obtained from the sum-over-states model indicate good second-order NLO responses of the two chalcone derivatives under external fields. Our findings are important not only to show the potential nonlinear optical application of the two new compounds but also to gain an insight into how different chemical compositions might affect the crystal structures and physico-chemical properties.

Two anthracene-based diamine crosslinkers were used to cure a range of commercially available monomers to produce four highly photoreversible crosslinked epoxy polymers. Through careful selection of the epoxy monomers used, the properties of the resultant polymer networks were varied to create a coating material that possessed room-temperature light-stimulated healing. Of the four coatings created, the best healing performance was exhibited by the two most flexible systems, both of these also exhibited the thermal and mechanical performance necessary for coatings. By using anthracene, the utilization of a wide range of wavelengths in the healing process is possible, which in applications such as industrial coatings would be of significant benefit.

The catalytic activity of Fe3O4@diaza crown ether@Ni was explored through one-pot synthesis of 2,3-dihydroquinazolin-4(1H)-ones and it was used as an efficient and recoverably constant nanocatalyst. FT-IR, SEM, TEM, XRD, BET, ICP, EDS, and TGA techniques were employed to specify the nanocatalyst. Photoredox catalysis in recent years has manifested a powerful branch of science in organic synthesis. Although merging photoredox and metal catalysts has been a widely used method, switchable heterogeneous photoredox catalysis has rarely been considered. Herein, we open a new window to use a switchable heterogeneous photoredox catalyst which could be turned on/off by changing a simple stimulus (O-2) for two opponent reactions, namely, oxidative and protodecarboxylation. Using this strategy, we demonstrate that Au@ZnO core-shell nanoparticles could be used as a switchable photocatalyst which has good catalytic activity to absorb visible light due to the localized surface plasmon resonance effect of gold, can decarboxylate a wide range of aromatic and aliphatic carboxylic acids, have multiple reusability, and are a reasonable candidate for synthesizing both aldehydes/ketones and alkane/arenes in a large-scale set up. Some biologically active molecules are also shown via examples of the direct oxidative and protodecarboxylation which widely provided pharmaceutical agents.

A series of chalcone ligands and their corresponding vanadyl complexes of composition [VO (LI-IV)(2)(H2O)(2)]SO4(where L-I= 1,3-Diphenylprop-2-en-1-one, L-II= 3-(2-Hydroxy-phenyl)-1-phenyl-propenone, L-III= 3-(3-Nitro-phenyl)-1-phenyl-propenone, L-IV= 3-(4-Methoxy-phenyl)-1-phenyl-propenone) have been synthesized and characterized using various spectroscopic (Fourier-transform infrared, electrospray ionization mass, nuclear magnetic resonance, electron paramagnetic resonance, thermogravimetric analysis, vibrating sample magnetometer) and physico-analytic techniques. Antidiabetic activities of synthesized complexes along with chalcones were evaluated by performing in vitro and in silico alpha-amylase and alpha-glucosidase inhibition studies. The obtained results displayed moderate to significant inhibition activity against both the enzymes by vanadyl chalcone complexes. The most potent complexes were further investigated for the enzyme kinetic studies and displayed the mixed inhibition for both the enzymes. Further, antioxidant activity of vanadyl chalcone complexes was evaluated for their efficiency to release oxidative stress using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picryl-hydrazyl-hydrate assay, and two complexes (Complexes2and4) have demonstrated remarkable antioxidant activity. All the complexes were found to possess promising antidiabetic and antioxidant potential.

In this work, two novel boronate affinity monolithic materials able to extract glycopeptides within a polypropylene syringe are described and compared. The first material was synthesized from glycidyl methacrylate (GMA)-based monoliths modified with poly-3-mercaptopropyl-methylsiloxane (PMPMS) followed by attachment of 4-vinylphenylboronic acid (VPBA) via thiol-ene click reaction. The second material was prepared by using gold nanoparticle (AuNP)-modified monoliths as substrate followed by subsequent attachment of PMPMS and VPBA. The resulting materials were used as sorbents for solid-phase extraction (SPE) to selectively preconcentrate glycopeptides from horseradish peroxidase (HRP) digests. The material that gave the superior performance was that prepared with AuNPs due to the presence of abundant boronic acid groups, being its practical applicability also examined. The hybrid material exhibited a satisfactory efficiency of glycopeptide enrichment (identifying 24 glycopeptides from a total of 27) in mixture of tryptic digests of HRP and bovine serum albumin (BSA) (1:100, w/w). The sorbent shows low sensitivity (0.5 fmol/?L), good adsorption capacity (25 mg g-1) and suitable reusability (over 10 times). Moreover, the hybrid monolith was successfully applied to the selective enrichment of glycopeptides from human serum digests, without any pretreatment, in which 85 glycopeptides were identified by nano-LC-MS/MS, suggesting a great potential for application in glycoproteome field.

In the effort to create a sustainable future economy, the ability to directly convert dilute gas-phase CO2 in waste gas streams into useful products would be a valuable tool, which may be achievable using Grignard reagents as both the capture and the conversion materials. The magnesium salt by-product can be recovered, and metallic magnesium regenerated through conventional high-efficiency electrolysis. This stoichiometric approach is known as metal looping, where the magnesium acts as the energy vector for the capture and conversion, allowing both to occur at room temperature and atmospheric pressure. However, the process has only previously been demonstrated with 12% CO2 in nitrogen mixtures. If we consider this process in a real post-combustion flue gas conversion scenario, the sensitivity of Grignard reagents to other gases (and water vapour) must be considered. While some of these gases and the water vapour are relatively easily removed, in most flue gas streams the most common other gas present, oxygen, would be far more challenging to excise, and oxygen is known to react with Grignard reagents, albeit slowly. In order to determine if higher oxygen concentrations could be tolerated, allowing the possibility of a variety of relatively inexpensive and possibly profitable direct CO2 conversion pathways to be developed, a range of industrially relevant CO2/O-2 mixtures were made and carefully bubbled through phenylmagnesium bromide solutions.
