A rhodium-catalyzed synthesis of isoquinolino[1,2-b]quinazolines via C-H annulation using vinylene carbonate as an oxidizing acetylene surrogate in biomass-derived gamma-valerolactone (GVL) has been developed. The reactions proceeded smoothly to give the corresponding products in moderate to good yields without any external oxidant and base. This protocol can also be applied for the synthesis of 5,6-dihydro-8H-isoquinolino[1,2-b]quinazolin-8-ones.

The azetidine moiety is a privileged motif in medicinal chemistry and new methods that access them efficiently are highly sought after. Towards this goal, we have found that azabicyclo[1.1.0]butyl carbinols, readily obtained from the highly strained azabicyclo[1.1.0]butane (ABB), can undergo divergent strain-release reactions upon N-activation. Treatment with trifluoroacetic anhydride or triflic anhydride triggered a semipinacol rearrangement to give keto 1,3,3-substituted azetidines. More than 20 examples were explored, enabling us to evaluate selectivity and the migratory aptitude of different groups. Alternatively, treatment of the same alcohols with benzyl chloroformate in the presence of NaI led to iodohydrin intermediates which gave spiroepoxy azetidines upon treatment with base. The electronic nature of the activating agent dictates which pathway operates.

Chiral hyperbranched polymers (HBP) containing cinchona alkaloids were synthesized using a Mizoroki-Heck (MH) coupling polymerization reaction between a cinchona squaramide dimer and tri- or tetrasubstituted aromatic iodides. This is a new type of polymeric chiral organocatalyst. We found that the as-obtained chiral HBPs show excellent catalytic activity in the asymmetric Michael reaction. Almost perfect enantioselectivity (>99% ee) was achieved in the reaction of beta-ketoester and trans-beta-nitrostyrene. Recently, there have been numerous efforts to develop hydrogen-rich organic materials because hydrogen energy is emerging as a renewable energy source. In this regard, we designed and prepared four new materials based on N-alkyl-bis(carbazole), 9,9 ‘-(2-methylpropane-1,3-diyl)bis(9H-carbazole) (MBC), 9,9 ‘-(2-ethylpropane-1,3-diyl)bis(9H-carbazole) (EBC), 9,9 ‘-(2-propylpropane-1,3-diyl)bis(9H-carbazole) (PBC), and 9,9 ‘-(2-butylpropane-1,3-diyl)bis(9H-carbazole) (BBC), to investigate their hydrogen adsorption/hydrogen desorption reactivity depending on the length of the alkyl chain. The gravimetric densities of MBC, EBC, PBC, and BBC were 5.86, 5.76, 5.49, and 5.31 H-2 wt %, respectively, again depending on the alkyl chain length. All materials showed complete hydrogenation reactions under ruthenium on an alumina catalyst at 190 degrees C, and complete reverse reactions and dehydrogenation reactions were observed under palladium on an alumina catalyst at <280 degrees C. Study Objective: To investigate whether the rate of increase in the performance of abdominal myomectomy over a laparoscopic approach after the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) safety communication regarding morcellator use for myomectomy differs among races. In a logistic regression analysis adjusted for possible confounders, including all races, the odds ratio of abdominal myomectomy before and after the FDA communication was 1.30 (95% confidence interval [CI], 1.20-1.41; p <. 001). In a logistic regression analysis with a product term of FDA communication exposure and race as a possible effect modifier, the African American population showed a significantly greater change in the odds of abdominal myomectomy over laparoscopic myomectomy in comparison with the white population (1.22; 95% CI, 1.02-1.47; p =.03). In contrast, other races showed no significant change (.83; 95% CI,.64-1.08; p =.17). We report a set of electrochemically regulated protocols for the divergent synthesis of ketones and beta-keto esters from the same beta-hydroxycarboxylic acid starting materials. Enabled by electrochemical control, the anodic oxidation of carboxylic acids proceeded in either a one-electron or a two-electron pathway, leading to a 1,4-aryl transfer or a semipinacol-type 1,2-group transfer product with excellent chemoselectivity. The 1,4-aryl transfer represents an unprecedented example of carbon-to-oxygen group transfer proceeding via a radical mechanism. In contrast to previously reported radical group transfer reactions, this 1,4-group transfer process features the migration of electron-rich aryl substituents. Furthermore, with these chemoselective electrochemical oxidation protocols, a range of ketones and beta-keto esters including those possessing a challenging-to-access medium-sized ring could be synthesized in excellent yields.

Graphene oxide as suitable support material was employed for the synthesis of GO-MnO2 nanocatalyst via a greener solution combustion route. Rod-like MnO2 was found to be uniformly adhered to both sides of graphene oxide (GO) sheets. The nanocatalyst was thoroughly characterized using different instrumental methods such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), N-2 adsorption-desorption, Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) with EDS mapping, UV-visible spectroscopy and Thermogravitometric (TG) analysis. From the experimental results, GO-MnO2 was found to be a potential catalyst for chalcones preparation via Claisen-Schmidt condensation. The catalytic activity of GO-MnO2 nanocatalyst was found to be superior as compared to pure MnO2 and GO. The reaction conditions were varied thoroughly by changing several reaction parameters like the solvent polarity, temperature, and catalyst wt%. High yield of chalcones was obtained in a short period of time at 110 degrees C under solventless conditions. The catalyst was easy to separate and was reused multiple times with minor change in activity. On comparing the activity with other reported catalyst in literatures it was revealed that GO-MnO2 nanocatalyst has significantly high activity in lesser period of time.

Background. International studies prove the high burden of mental illnesses among refugees. Postmigration stressors in the country of refugemay affect themental health and result in depression. Objectives. The study examines whether postmigration stressors are associated with the prevalence of depressive symptoms among adult refugees in Germany. Methods. Secondary data analysis based on cross-sectional data of the IAB-BAMF-SOEP Survey of Refugees 2016 (N= 4465) that is representative for Germany. Depressive symptoms were measured using the Patient Health Questionnaire-2 (PHQ-2). Unadjusted and adjusted odds ratios (ORs) and confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated with binary logistic regression models to examine associations between depression and sociodemographic, postmigration, and psychosocial factors. Results. Depressive symptoms show 19.4% of the surveyed refugees. Almost all selected postmigration stressors are significantly associated with depression after adjustment for sociodemographic and psychosocial factors. Unemployment (aOR= 1.48 [1.04-2.12]), loneliness (aOR= 1.14 [1.10-1.18]), and a rejected or undecided asylum application (aOR= 1.34 [1.06-1.70]) increase the odds of depressive symptoms, whereas asylum interviews (aOR= 0.71 [0.56-0.91]) and higher housing satisfaction (aOR= 0.94 [0.91-0.98]) lower the odds of depression. Conclusions. Postmigration stress is associated with the occurrence of depressive symptoms. Sociopolitical interventions considering stressful and protective factors of the postmigration phase can reduce the burden of mental disorders in refugee populations.

Inhibition of the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) has been proved to be one of the most promising strategies for the treatment of non-small cell lung cancers. A series of 2-aryl-4-amino substituted quinazoline derivatives were designed and synthesized with the purpose to overcome L858R/T790M/C797S (CTL) triple mutant drug resistance and the biological activity for inhibition of CTL kinases and EGFR wild type (WT) were evaluated. Three compounds (20, 24 and 27) showed excellent inhibitory activities against EGFR kinases triple mutant CTL (IC50 < 1 mu M) and high selectivity (IC50: WT/CTL >10000). Cell line evaluation showed that the most potent compound 27 was significantly potent against H1975-EGFR L858R/T790M (IC50 = 3.3 mu M) and H1975-EGFR L858R/T790M/C797S (IC50 = 1.2 mu M). Compound 27 also exhibited good microsomes stabilities in human, rat and mouse liver species, but low bioavailability. This work would be very useful for discovering new quinazoline derivatives as tyrosine kinase inhibitors targeting triple mutant L858R/T790M/C797S.
