The preparation of chiral monohydrosilanes remains a rarely achieved goal. To this end a Rh-catalyzed desymmetrization of dihydrosilanes by way of intramolecular C(sp(2))-H functionalization under simple and mild conditions has now been developed. This method provides easy access to a broad range of chiral monohydrosilanes in good yields with excellent enantioselectivities (up to >99 % ee). The resulting monohydrosilanes constitute a good platform to access stereogenic silicon compounds, as well as useful compounds to probe silicon stereochemistry.

Here, the synthesis of MgO nanopowders via a simple precipitation method is defined. The morphology, phase identification, particle size distribution and specific surface area of the sample was investigated by FE-SEM, TEM, XRD, DLS, and BET techniques. The structural parameters were determined through XRD pattern. The sample crystallized in a pure cubic phase with the average crystallite size of 55 nm. The micro-strain (epsilon) and dislocation density (delta) of the sample were also calculated to be 0.1153 and 3.306 x 10(-4), respectively. The catalyst has a specific surface area and of 26.7 m(2)g(-1). The catalytic activity of MgO nanopowders was studied in the three-component condensation of aldehydes, 4-hydroxycoumarin, and malononitrile in aqueous media. A range of aromatic aldehydes undergoes the reaction to produce a series of pyrano[3,2-c]chromen derivatives in good yields.

Synthesis of efficient and reusable catalyst was carried out by immobilizing azacrown ether onto the covalently linked amine-functionalized mesoporous MCM-41 via a simple method. Application of this linked azacrown ether functionalized MCM-41 catalyst was also investigated as an effective, heterogeneous in the synthesis of hexahydroquinoline derivatives under solvent-free conditions at environment temperature. The heterogeneous catalyst is characterized by TGA, XRD, TEM,(HNMR)-H-1,(CNMR)-C-13, and FT-IR techniques. The results of theses analysis showed that, MCM-41@azacrown-SB-Cu catalyst with a 22.99% mol loading of copper has given excellent catalytic activity and high efficiency in a short time. It is noted that one of the most valuable factors in this work is the recyclability of the catalyst.

4-Imidazol-1-yl-butane-1-sulfonic acid (ImBu-SO3H) has been successfully synthetized and fully characterized by FT-IR and high-resolution NMR spectroscopy (H-1, C-13). The plausible alternative structures of ImBu-SO3H were discussed on the basis of its NMR data. The ionic liquid showed interesting dual solvent-catalyst property, which was studied experimentally for the acetylation of a variety of functionalized alcohols, phenols, thiols, amines and a-tocopherol (a-CTP) as the most active form of vitamin E with acetic anhydride and which provided good yields within a short reaction time. ImBu-SO3H was successfully recycled by product extraction with an average recovered yield of 82% for 5 subsequent runs. The catalytic activity of the recycled ImBu-SO3H showed almost no loss even after five consecutive runs. [GRAPHICS] .

A heterogeneous organic-inorganic hybrid durable nanocatalyst gamma-Al2O3@Silane-TMG was prepared by covalently functionalization of nano-gamma-Al2O3 through anchored 3-chloropropyl- trimethoxysilane with 1,1,3,3-tetramethylguanidine (TMG). The structure of the catalyst was characterized by various techniques including FT-IR, XRD, SEM, EDX and TGA analyses. The synthesized nanocatalyst was successfully used in an efficient and green four-component synthesis of pyrazolopyranopyrimidine derivatives using ethyl acetoacetate, hydrazine hydrate, arylaldehydes and barbituric acid (or thiobarbituric acid) in H2O at 40 oC. This practical method produced the desired products at reduced reaction times (10-25 min) and high to excellent yields (85-98%). The main advantages of this practical method are the use of heterogeneous basic nanocatalyst, simple work-up procedure with no need to chromatographic purification, affording highly selective conversion and recyclability of the catalyst which could be used in 5 cycles with only a small decrease in its activity. Coal fluidity is an important parameter in coal blending techniques for coke making because it strongly influences coke qualities. On the other hand, recently, the amount of high fluidity coal has been limited. To cope with this problem, caking additive method which improves fluidity of coal has been developed and commercialized. However, since tight supply of high fluidity coal is anticipated in the future, it is of great importance to develop more effective caking additive. Therefore, in this study, we investigated effect of 11 kinds of polyaromatic hydrocarbons which include oxygen, sulfur and nitrogen containing compounds on coal fluidity in order to search for more effective chemical substances. The additives were added to low fluidity coal, and fluidity analyses were carried out according to the Gieseler plastometer method. Addition of sulfur and oxygen containing compounds lowered fluidity of coal, whereas addition of aromatic amines enhanced fluidity of coal. Coal fluidity ameliorated with increasing the molecular weight of aromatic amine, and N,N’-di-2-naphthyl-1,4-phenylenediamine (DNPD) was the most effective aromatic amine in this study. Carbonization tests in an electric furnace were conducted to investigate an effect of DNPD on coke strength. As a result of adding only 1 wt% DNPD, fluidity of blended coal and coke strength (Drum Index) were highly improved.

Organo-radical catalysts have recently attracted great interest, and the development of this field can be expected to broaden the applications of organocatalysis. Herein, the first example of a radical-generating system is reported that does not require any photoirradiation, radical initiators, or preactivated substrates. The oxidative C-C-bond cleavage of 2-substituted cyclohexanones was achieved using an azolium salt and a hydroquinone as co-catalysts. A catalytic mechanism was proposed based on the results of diffusion-ordered spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry measurements, as well as computational studies.

Herein, we disclose a unique directing effect of 9-substituted triptycenes in electrophilic substitution to achieve the regioselective functionalization of the triptycene core. The Hirshfeld population analysis was adopted to predict the selectivity in electrophilic substitution. TMS and t-Bu groups were found to considerably accelerate the reaction at C2 positions to produce C3symmetric isomers. Correlation between distortion and charge distribution within benzene rings was systematically examined.

We report a set of electrochemically regulated protocols for the divergent synthesis of ketones and beta-keto esters from the same beta-hydroxycarboxylic acid starting materials. Enabled by electrochemical control, the anodic oxidation of carboxylic acids proceeded in either a one-electron or a two-electron pathway, leading to a 1,4-aryl transfer or a semipinacol-type 1,2-group transfer product with excellent chemoselectivity. The 1,4-aryl transfer represents an unprecedented example of carbon-to-oxygen group transfer proceeding via a radical mechanism. In contrast to previously reported radical group transfer reactions, this 1,4-group transfer process features the migration of electron-rich aryl substituents. Furthermore, with these chemoselective electrochemical oxidation protocols, a range of ketones and beta-keto esters including those possessing a challenging-to-access medium-sized ring could be synthesized in excellent yields.

A new aromatic diamine, 10,10-bis [4-(4-amino-2-pyridinoxy)phenyl]-9(10H)-anthracenone (BAPPA) was synthesized from anthrone as the starting material, and the corresponding pyridine- and anthrone-containing poly(ether amide)s (PEAs) were prepared from BAPPA with various aromatic diacid chlorides via a low-temperature solution polycondensation. The resulting PEAs having number-average molecular weights (M-n) of 29,500-33,400 g/mol with the polydispersity index ranged from 1.75 to 1.84, were all amorphous, and displayed excellent thermal stability with the glass transition temperatures of 263-355 degrees C, the temperatures of 415-441 degrees C at 5% weight loss and the higher than 50% residues at 800 degrees C in nitrogen. These new PEAs were soluble in polar solvents such as N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone, N,N-dimethylacetamide and pyridine, even almost in tetrahydrofuran at room temperature and could form transparent, strong and flexible films with tensile strengths of 84-97 MPa, tensile moduli of 2.1-3.2 GPa and elongations at break of 4-13%. Also, the present PEAs exhibited high optical transparence with the UV cutoff wavelength in the 342-362 nm range, and 83-90% transmittance at 500 nm. These results indicated the introduction of anthrone and pyridine groups into the backbone could improve the solubility and transparence of polyamides.
