In this project, a recently synthesized DABCO-based catalyst is entrapped in agar to reduce its moisture sensitivity leading to enhancement of its stability and catalytic activity. After preparation and identification this new reagent is used as an efficient and environmentally safe catalyst for the preparation of 1, 2, 4-triazoloquinazolinone and some pyrimidine derivatives. This method is accompanied with some superiorities such as, simple operation, mild and green conditions, use of low cost and non-hazardous natural material, short reaction times, easy preparation methods and simple work-up procedures. The prepared catalyst can be re-used for several times in all of the studied reactions without any appreciable loss in its activity. (C) 2020 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Cadmium highly toxic and hazardous, and it can adversely affect human health leading to serious disorders. Herein, a water-soluble near-infrared sensor based on aza-BODIPY (1) was developed for dual determination of Cd2+ in environmental and biological media. This sensor exhibited color change from colorless to green along with a fluorescence enhancement in the near-infrared (NIR) region via photoinduced electron transfer (PET) after complexation with Cd2+. Sensor 1 can be employed in aqueous media at physiological pH for quantitative monitoring. It shows rapid response with high sensitivity (detection limit of 2.8 ppb; linear correlation over [Cd2+] 1.33 – 6.67 mu M) and selectivity over potentially interfering ions. NIR sensor 1 can be used to determine [Cd2+] in living cells and environmental samples.

From the view of energy saving and environment protection, green catalysis has become one of the most important goals of chemists, including both the green preparation of catalyst and the highly efficient catalysis under mild reaction condition. Herein, N,N-dimethylaminopropyl-functionalized hybrid zeolite is firstly synthesized by one-step non-templating method, which is characterized by powder X-ray diffraction, Fourier-transform IR, thermogravimetric analysis, element analysis, scanning electron microscope, water contact angle measurements, inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry, and N-2 adsorption-desorption measurements. The functionalized hybrid zeolite can be directly used as base catalyst without any post modification and achieve high yields of corresponding products in the Knoevenagel condensation of benzaldehyde (or substituted benzaldehyde) with ethyl cyanoacetate at room temperature by using ethanol as solvent. By the comparison with other zeolite catalysts, the unique and excellent catalytic properties of N,N-dimethylaminopropyl-functionalized hybrid zeolite was ascribed to not only the synergic effect of basic property and hydrophobic/lipophilicity of the organic groups, but also the easier accessibility of bulky substrate molecules with highly exposed catalytic active sites over the solid catalyst. The recycling and control experiments show that it owes excellent reusable stability.

Combining the encapsulating capability of cyclodextrin and instinctive features of bentonite clay, a versatile metal free catalyst has been developed that could promote various chemical reactions such as Knoevenagel condensation, synthesis of xanthan and octahydroquinazolinones in aqueous media under ultrasonic irradiation. To prepare the catalyst, bentonite was Cl-functionalized and then reacted with isatin and guanidine successively to furnish amino functionalized bentonite. The latter then reacted with tosylated cyclodextrin. The resultant catalytic composite was characterized via XRD, SEM, EDS, BET, elemental mapping analysis, TGA and FTIR. The catalytic activity tests approved excellent activity of the catalyst as well as broad substrate scope. Notably, the catalyst could be simply recovered and reused for several reaction runs. Moreover, the activity of the composite was superior to that of its components.

Background: Due to the presence of several serious side effects such as erosion and bleeding in the gastric mucosal layer which are linked with Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents and a lot of these adverse effects may be dangerous for life and may cause numerous mortalities, demand for new antiinflammatory and analgesic agents has become an important task in medicinal chemistry to improve therapeutic efficacy as well as safety. Method: In the search for new anti-inflammatory and analgesic molecules with greater potency, some novel indole derivatives (SK-1 to SK-9) were attained by chloroacetylation process of indole after that reaction through some aromatic aldehydes with the presence of acetic acid in absolute ethyl alcohol. IR, H-1 NMR, and C-13 NMR spectra were used for the structure elucidation of obtained chemical compounds. In this context, the analgesic and anti-inflammatory activity were evaluated for synthetically obtained new chemical compounds. Furthermore, the molecular docking studies were performed to elucidate the binding modes of synthesized ligands in the active pockets of Cox-1 / 2 enzymes. Result: Among the compounds assessed, SK-2 and SK-8 demonstrated potent analgesic & antiinflammatory activities when compared to ibuprofen and diclofenac sodium as reference drugs. Compound SK-4 has exhibited significant anti-inflammatory activity while compounds SK-1 and SK-5 have shown significant analgesic action when compared to the control. Molecular docking studies indicated that SK2 compound exhibited appreciable binding affinity (-9.16 kcal/mol) towards the COX-2 enzyme and mandatory interactions for COX-2 enzyme inhibition. Conclusion: It might be established from the present study that prepared compounds are unique in terms of their structure and noticeable biological action. Hypothesis: It is expected that incorporation of 2, 2, 6, 6-tetra-methyl piperidine-N-oxyl radical (TEMPO) and an imidazolium bromide bearing hydrophilic triethylene glycol (TEG) groups on Fe3O4@SiO2 core-shell may not only result in a novel highly water-dispersible/magnetically separable multi-functional catalyst system for metal-free aerobic oxidation of alcohols, which operates through a synergistic relay pathway, but it could potentially provide a strong platform for simultaneous separation and recycling of all components. Experiments: The catalyst was prepared by anchoring TEMPO moieties onto a magnetic core-shell Fe3O4@SiO2 functionalized with an ionic liquid bearing TEG groups. The materials was characterized using transmission electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, nitrogen adsorption-desorption isotherms, thermal gravimetric analysis, and elemental analysis. The performance of the catalyst was evaluated and quantitatively measured in the aerobic oxidation of alcohols in water. Findings: The catalyst exhibited excellent and stable colloidal dispersion in water and high performance in the aerobic oxidation of various types of alcohols under metal- and halogen-free reaction conditions. As hypothesized, strong synergistic effect between functionalized components was seen in the described reaction. The catalyst displayed excellent dual-adjustable-selectivity in the oxidation of primary alcohols to either the corresponding aldehydes or carboxylic acids by tuning the reaction solvent and/or reaction time and excellent recycling behavior through a double-separation-strategy. A highly efficient and environmentally benign synthesis of N-fused heterocyclic compounds including pyrido[1,2-a]pyrimidine-6-one moiety is successfully achieved via a sequential four-component reaction. The process involves the formation of diversely substituted 9-nitro-1,2,3,4,7,8-hexahydro-6H-pyrido[1,2-a]pyrimidin-6-ones from the reaction of Meldrum’s acid, benzaldehydes, 1,1-bis(methylthio)-2-nitroethylene and various diamines in the presence of p-toluene sulfonic acid (PTSA) as an acidic catalyst in water as a green solvent. The salient features of the present methodology are easily available starting materials, the use of water as environmentally benign solvent, simple execution, applicable to a wide range of starting materials and good to excellent yields.

A novel dioxomolybdenum Schiff base complex, MoO2L center dot DMF, was synthesized by treating MoO2(acac)(2) with an ONO donor Schiff base ligand (H2L) derived by the condensation of 4-aminobenzohydrazide and 3-methoxysalicylaldehyde. The synthesized ligand and complex were characterized by physicochemical and spectroscopic techniques. Single-crystal X-ray analysis was also accomplished to ensure the molecular structure of the complex. The geometry around the central metal atom in MoO2L center dot DMF was distorted octahedral as revealed by the data collected from diffraction studies. Theoretical calculations of the synthesized compounds were carried out by DFT at B3LYP/Def2-TZVP level of theory, which showed a good correlation with the experimental findings. Moreover, the homogeneous catalytic efficiency of the complex was investigated by the process of selective oxidation of benzylic alcohols using urea hydrogen peroxide (UHP) in acetonitrile under reflux conditions.

In this research, a number of new and known chromenopyrano [2,3-b]pyridine derivatives have been prepared. Initially, according to the reported procedure, pyrano [2,3-c] chromene derivatives were synthesized by the reaction between 4-hydroxycoumarin, aromatic aldehydes and malononitrile using silica sodium carbonate (SSC) as the catalyst. Next, the prepared pyrano [2,3-c] chromenes were reacted by dimethyl acetylenedicarboxylate (DMAD) or cyclohexanone in the presence of sodium carbonate to produce chromenopyrano [2,3-b]pyridine derivatives. The presented protocol avoids the use of expensive catalysts and gives useful potentially bioactive heterocycles in excellent to high yields.
