A novel structure of sinomenine isoxazole derivatives is synthesised from sinomenine hydrochloride and aromatic aldehydes and requires six steps. 19 target compounds have been obtained in good yields. The sinomenine hydrochloride transforms to 4-alkynyl sinomenine, which is a key intermediate product to synthesise the target sinomenine isoxazole compounds, after a neutralisation reaction with ammonia and substitution reaction with 3-chloropropyne. Another key intermediate product is 1,3-dipole, which can be obtained from aromatic aldehyde. After treatment with hydroxylamine hydrochloride and then sodium carbonate solution, aromatic aldehyde is converted to aldehyde oxime, which reacts with N-chlorosuccinimide (NCS) to afford aryl hydroximino chloride. 1,3-Dipole is eventually formed in situ while triethylamine (TEA) in DMF is added dropwise. Then 4-alkynyl sinomenine is added to provide the sinomenine isoxazole derivative via 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reaction as the key step. All the target compounds are characterised by melting point, H-1 NMR, C-13 NMR, HRMS and FT-IR spectroscopy.

Copper ferrite (CuFe2O4) magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) were synthesized via thermal decomposition and applied as a reusable and green catalyst in the synthesis of functionalized 4H-pyran derivatives using malononitrile, an aromatic aldehyde, and a beta-ketoester in ethanol at room temperature. The nanoparticles were characterized by FT-IR, EDX, SEM, TGA, and DTG analysis. The catalyst was recovered from the reaction mixture by applying an external magnet and decanting the mixture. Recycled catalyst was reused for several times without significant loss in its activity. Running the one-pot three-component reaction at room temperature, using a green solvent under environmentally friendly reaction conditions, ease of catalyst recovery and recyclability, no need for column chromatography and good to excellent yields are advantages of this protocol.

1,2,3-Triazole is an interesting N-heterocyclic framework which can act as both a hydrogen bond donor and metal chelator. In the present study, C-H hydrogen bonding of the 1,2,3-triazole ring was surveyed theoretically and the results showed a good agreement with the experimental observations. The click-modified magnetic nanocatalyst Pd@click-Fe3O4/chitosan was successfully prepared, in which the triazole moiety plays a dual role as both a strong linker and an excellent ligand and immobilizes the palladium species in the catalyst matrix. This nanostructure was well characterized and found to be an efficient catalyst for the CO gas-free formylation of aryl halides using formic acid (HCOOH) as the most convenient, inexpensive and environmentally friendly CO source. Here, the aryl halides are selectively converted to the corresponding aromatic aldehydes under mild reaction conditions and low Pd loading. The activity of this catalyst was also excellent in the Suzuki cross-coupling reaction of various aryl halides with phenylboronic acids in EtOH/H2O (1 : 1) at room temperature. In addition, this catalyst was stable in the reaction media and could be magnetically separated and recovered several times.

The novel copper(II) ions decorated Fe3O4@SiO2 composite magnetic spheres were synthesized by grafting copper(II) ions onto glucosamine modified Fe3O4@SiO2 NPs. The magnetic Fe3O4@SiO2-TCT-GA-Cu(II) catalyst were characterized by varies physicochemical techniques such as FT-IR, FE-SEM, TEM, DLS, XRD, EDX, VSM, TGA, VSM, ICP, and UV-Vis. The catalytic performance of this novel catalyst was studied in the green preparation of 5-substituted 1H-tetrazole based hybrids via three-component and one-pot reaction of sodium azide, hydroxylamine hydrochloride, and various aldehydes in water and ethylene glycol, as a green solvent mixture. This green protocol provides significant advantages such as non-vigorous conditions, short reaction times, outstanding yield of desired tetrazoles, minimizing of chemical waste, wide-ranging substrate, quick and efficient work-up procedure and using environmentally benign, durable, cost effective, magnetically separable, reusable nanocatalyst.

A novel series of tacrine based cyclopentapyranopyridine- and tetrahydropyranoquinoline-kojic acid derivatives were designed, synthesized, and evaluated as anti-cholinesterase agents. The chemical structures of all target compounds were characterized by H-1-NMR, C-13-NMR, and elemental analyses. The synthesized compounds mostly inhibited acetylcholinesterase enzyme (AChE) with IC50 values of 4.18-48.71 mu M rather than butyrylcholinesterase enzyme (BChE) with IC50 values of >100 mu M. Among them, cyclopentapyranopyridine-kojic acid derivatives showed slightly better AChE inhibitory activity compared to tetrahydropyranoquinoline-kojic acid. The compound 10-amino-2-(hydroxymethyl)-11-(4-isopropylphenyl)-7,8,9,11-tetrahydro-4H-cyclopenta[b]pyrano[2 ‘,3 ‘ : 5,6]pyrano[3,2-e]pyridin-4-one (6f) bearing 4-isopropylphenyl moiety and cyclopentane ring exhibited the highest anti-AChE activity with IC50 value of 4.18 mu M. The kinetic study indicated that the compound 6f acts as a mixed inhibitor and the molecular docking studies also illustrated that the compound 6f binds to both the catalytic site (CS) and peripheral anionic site (PAS) of AChE. The compound 6f showed moderate neuroprotective properties against H2O2-induced cytotoxicity in PC12 cells. The theoretical ADME study also predicted good drug-likeness for the compound 6f. Based on these results, the compound 6f seems to be a very promising AChE inhibitor for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease.

A novel nanomagnetic catalyst (Fe3O4@S-TiO2) was prepared by the hydrothermal method. At the first, Fe3O4 nanoparticles were synthesized, then iron oxide nanoparticles (IONPs) were dispersed in ethanol solution, followed by the addition of titanium isopropoxide and thiourea to modify IONPs. The synthesized magnetically green catalyst has been characterized by various methods (TEM, SEM, EDS, XRD, VSM and FTIR). These techniques approved that the sulfur-doped titanium dioxide shell was well placed on the surface of the magnetite core. The catalytic activity of this nanocatalyst has been studied in the diastereoselective synthesis of new highly substituted tetrahydropyridine derivatives at 100 degrees C and under solvent-free conditions. It was confirmed that this nanocatalyst can multiply the rate of the reaction compared to the undoped Fe3O4@TiO2 and can also lead to high reaction yields. This catalyst could be easily recovered and reused without significant loss of activity over five successful runs. Besides, we proved that acetylacetone can be an acceptable and effective beta-diketone in the synthesis of tetrahydropyridines in high yields.

A Cd(II) coordination polymer based on a polytopic compartmental ligand was synthesized, and used as an efficient heterogeneous catalyst for the Knoevenagel reaction between benzaldehyde and malononitrile under mild reaction conditions. The solid catalyst was characterized using single crystal XRD, X-ray powder diffraction, SEM, TGA, UV diffuse reflectance, infrared spectroscopy and elemental analysis. The compound is a two-dimensional (2D) MOF with a grid structure. Topological analysis of the framework revealed that it is a 2,4-connected binodal net. The catalytic activity was tested between various benzaldehydes containing different substituents with malononitrile. The effect of reaction parameters such as solvent, time, reactant ratio and catalyst amount was investigated. Furthermore, the catalyst stability was examined through reusability experiments and it is observed that the catalyst can be recycled at least five times without significant drop in its activity.

A convenient and eco-friendly, one-pot synthetic protocol for pharmaceutically important pyran-based heterocyclic compounds is repeated herein. The reactions were carried out at room temperature in a water-ethanol solvent mixture under direct irradiation of UV365 light source in the absence of photocatalyst. The merits of the present protocol include mild and catalyst-free reactions, green procedures, and high yields. The added advantage of this protocol is that it can be applied for large-scale synthesis of various pyran-based heterocyclic compounds without employing any expensive catalyst. Also, in vitro antibacterial screening of pyran derivative was investigated against both Gram-positive Bacillus cereus (B. cereus) and Gram-negative bacteria Escherichia coli (E. coli).

In the current research, much attention is paid to heterogenized nanostructure. Herein, we report the green synthesis magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) of cobalt ferrite by the immobilization of erbium (Er) coated with folic acid (FA) which show effective catalytic properties and recyclability. Full characterizations with field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), X-ray atomic mapping, thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), X-ray diffraction (XRD), vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM), inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES), and Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy techniques were undertaken to uncover structural properties of the prepared magnetic catalyst. The obtained nanohybrid complexes as efficient, recyclable, and green heterogeneous systems pave the way for producing pyrano[2,3-d]pyrimidinone and dihydropyrano[3,2-c]chromenes derivatives by the one-pot three-component condensation reaction of various aldehydes, malononitrile, and hydroxycoumarin or barbituric acid in green condition. This easily prepared organometalic catalyst presents many superiorities such as operational simplicity, high yield, short reaction time, utilization of commercially available or easily accessible starting materials, eco-friendly properties, and excellent purity. Most importantly, erbium-FA-coated CoFe2O4 can be easily separated and recycled from the reaction system using an external magnetic field. The magnetically recoverable biocatalyst can be recycled and reused six times while maintaining high activities. The activity of the magnetic catalyst can be maintained at more than 80% of that of the previous cycle. This research solves the recovery problem encountered in industrial applications of biocatalysts and presents a clean and green method for preparing pyrimidinones and chromenes.
