The in situ formed ruthenium catalytic system ([Ru]/L) was found to be highly selective for the dehydrogenative coupling reaction of 2-aminophenyl ketones with amines to form quinazoline products. The deaminative coupling reaction of 2-aminobenzamides with amines led to the efficient formation of quinazolinone products. The catalytic coupling method provides an efficient synthesis of quinazoline and quinazolinone derivatives without using any reactive reagents or forming any toxic byproducts.

To explore new skeleton with nematicidal activity, a series of novel 1,2,3-benzotriazin-4-one derivatives containing piperazine as linker were synthesized and varied fragments were also introduced to increase structure diversity of the new skeleton. Their inhibitory activities in vivo were evaluated against Meloidogyne incognita. The newly prepared compounds A6, A8, A21, A28 and A38 exhibited more than 50% inhibition at the concentration of 20 mg/L. Especially compound A6 displayed 71.4% inhibition against Meloidogyne incognita at the concentration of 20 mg/L. The nematicidal activities varied significantly depending on the types and positions of the substituents, which provided guidance for further structure modification. Current work describes the environmentally benign approach for the synthesis of o-ureidobenzonitriles, from o-aminobenzamides and isothiocyanates using T3P. Due to the redox properties closely related to numerous physiological and pathological processes, biothiols, including cysteine (Cys), homocysteine (Hcy) and glutathione (GSH), have received considerable attention in biological science. On account of the important physiological roles of these biothiols, it is of profound significance to develop sensitive and selective detection of biothiols to understand their biological profiles. In this work, we reported an efficient fluorescent probe, PHPQ-SH, for detecting biothiols in vitro and vivo, based on the phenothiazine-HPQ skeleton, with DNBS (2,4-dinitrobenzenesulfonate) as the response unit. Probe PHPQ-SH exhibited brilliant sensing performances toward thiols, including a large Stokes shift (138 nm), excellent sensitivity (for GSH, LOD = 18.3 nM), remarkable fluorescence enhancement (163-fold), low cytotoxicity, rapid response (8 min), and extraordinary selectivity. Finally, the probe PHPQ-SH illustrated herein was capable of responding and visualizing biothiols in MCF-7 cells and zebrafish.

Purification of recombinant proteins is often a challenging matter because high purity and high recovery are desired. If the expressed recombinant protein is also in a complex matrix, such as from the silkworm expression system, purification becomes more challenging. Even if purification from the silkworm expression system is troublesome, it benefits from a high capacity for the production of recombinant proteins. In this study, magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) were investigated as a suitable tool for the purification of proteins from the complex matrix of the silkworm fat body. The MNPs were modified with nickel so that they have an affinity for His-tagged proteins, as the MNP purification protocol itself does not need special equipment except for a magnet. Among the three different kinds of investigated MNPs, MNPs with sizes of 100 nm to 200 nm and approximately 20 nm-thick nickel shells were the most suitable for our purpose. With them, the total protein amount was reduced by up to at least approximately 77.7%, with a protein recovery of around 50.8% from the silkworm fat body. The minimum binding capacity was estimated to be 83.3 mu g protein/mg MNP. Therefore, these MNPs are a promising tool as a purification pretreatment of complex sample matrices.

An efficient and convenient strategy for the synthesis of diversely substituted quinazolinones from o-carbamoyl/cyano aniline and aryl iodides using oxalic acid as a CO source under polystyrene supported palladium (Pd@PS) nanoparticles (NPs) catalyzed conditions has been developed. In this study, oxalic acid has been employed as safe, economic, environmentally benign, sustainable and bench-stable, solid CO surrogate under Double-Layer-Vial (DLV) system for the synthesis of 2-aryl quinazolinones. Facile green synthesis of BiOCl-TiO2 was done using combustion technique by Ixora coccinea leaf extract as fuel source. The said material was characterized using XRD, SEM, EDX, HRTEM, SAED, FTIR, and UV-DRS. The particle size was found to be approximately 60 nm and a crystallite size of 0.3 nm from TEM. The photocatalytic activity of the material was found out using photoluminescence studies, dye degradation and photocatalytic organic conversion. The material showed excellent dye degradation capacity for methylene blue with 80% of the dye degraded under 3 hrs. The stabilisation of electron-hole pair by the heterostructure gave it the ability to perform easy degradation. The degradation kinetics have also been studied. It also showed an excellent organic conversion property with formylation yield reaching up to 96% and total conversion of the reactant molecule. The material is a potent photocatalyst due to its great efficiency and can have a remarkable role in the synthesis of important organic molecules and detoxification of environment.Graphical AbstractThe heterostructure catalyses the conversion of amine to amides and mineralizes methylene blue under visible light condition.

Although the synthesis of novel N-heterocyclic molecules is extremely demanding as well as challenging, the involvement of toxic solvents often triggers environmental safety concerns, resulting in process-engineering challenges. Herein, we have demonstrated a rapid, environmentally benign and energy efficient scalable method for the synthesis of 2,3-dihydroquinazolin-4(1H)-one by grinding in a mortar pestle as well as mechanochemically via ball milling using p-TSA catalyst. The ability to accomplish the reaction in the absence of solvent via grinding or milling with p-TSA catalyst, with an immediate reduction in the cost and operational procedures, features the significant advantages of this protocol. The scalability and significance of the operational parameters during mechanochemical milling in the tubular ball mill were also demonstrated. Excellent yield in short duration, large substrate scope, product scalability, and easy recoverability are the prime features of this mechanochemical solvent-free protocol for the synthesis of 2,3-dihydroquinazolin-4(1H)-one. The study also demonstrated the significant role of ball diameter to improve the efficiency of the milling operation in this mechanochemical synthesis.
