In an attempt to develop potential and selective antitumor agents, a series of novel sulphamide tethered quinazolinone hybrids were efficiently synthesized and evaluated for antitumor activity against four cancer cell lines such as HeLa (cervical), MDA-MB-231 (breast), PANC-1 (pancreatic), and A549 (lung) in vitro. All the compounds (5a-j, 6a-g) exhibited significant anti-proliferative activity with GI(50) values ranging from 0.045 to 6.94 mu M, while compound 10c showed potent activity against all the cell lines (He La, MDA-MB-231, PANC-1 and A549) with GI(50) values ranging from 0.09 to 0.21 mu M. We have explored the binding mode and key active site interactions in HDAC8 and EHMT2 proteins. The docking results are complementary to the experimental results. (C) 2019 Elsevier B.V. Three new arene-ruthenium(II) complexes were prepared by treating [{RuCl(mu-Cl)(eta(6)-arene)}(2)] (eta(6)-arene = p-cymene) dimer with tri(2-furyl)phosphine (PFu(3)) and 1,3,5-triaza-7-phosphaadamantane (PTA), respectively to obtain [RuCl2(eta(6)-arene)PFu(3)] [Ru] -1, (RuCl(eta(6)-arene)(PFu(3))(PTA)]BF4 [Ru] -2 and HtuCl(eta(6)-arene)(PFu(3))(2)]BF4 [Ru] -3. All the complexes were structurally identified using analytical and spectroscopic methods including single-crystal X-ray studies. The effectiveness of resulting complexes as potential homogeneous catalysts for selective hydration of different nitriles into corresponding amides in aqueous medium and air atmosphere was explored. There was a remarkable difference in catalytic activity of the catalysts depending on the nature and number of phosphorus-donor ligands and sites available for catalysis. Experimental studies performed using structural analogues of efficient catalyst concluded a structural-activity relationship for the higher catalytic activity of [Ru] -1, being able to convert huge variety of aromatic, heteroaromatic and aliphatic nitriles. The use of eco-friendly water as a solvent, open atmosphere and avoidance of any organic solvent during the catalytic reactions prove the reported process to be truly green and sustainable.

In the present work, sulfonated highly ordered mesoporous graphitic carbon nitride (ompg-C3N4/SO3H) was synthesized successfully and employed as an efficient and reusable heterogeneous solid acid catalyst for the rapid and one-pot synthesis of 2,3-dihydroquinazolin-4(1H)-ones via the condensation of anthranilamide with aldehydes or ketones in good to excellent yields. The organocatalyst was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, field emission scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectrometer, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface area, and thermal gravimetric and differential thermal analysis. The substantial advantages of this procedure involve short reaction times, high catalytic activity, easy workup, high purity of the products, and easy recovery and reusability of the catalyst.

An efficient, metal free and environment friendly synthesis of isoquinoline-fused benzimidazole has been developed via in situ air oxidation. Also, syntheses of isoquinoline-fused quinazolinone heteroacenes were successfully achieved. The synthesized isoquinoline-fused benzimidazole and isoquinoline-fused quinazolinone derivatives showed lambda(max), F-max and phi(f) values in the ranges 356-394 nm, 403-444 nm and 0.063-0.471, respectively, in CHCl3.

Four categories of sulfonic acid functionalized fiber catalysts with different surface microenvironments were synthesized by covalent grafting using polyacrylonitrile fiber (PANF) as the support. After the effect of acid structure on catalytic activity has been investigated by Friedlander reaction, PAN(EOS)F was chosen for the synthesis of quinolines and coumarin derivatives with high yields and extensive substrate scope (51 examples) in ethanol or water. The effect of electrostatic microenvironment and solvent has been discussed, and a release-catch-release-catch catalytic pattern was proposed accordingly. A series of aldo-quinazolinones were synthesized by a one-pot iodine-induced oxidative condensation of the unprotected mono-/di-saccharides and o-aminobenzamides in the yields of 30%similar to 80%, providing an effective protocol for the preparation of aldo-quinazolinones. ZnS and Cu:ZnS nanoparticles were prepared by aqueous chemical method and characterized by several analytical tools. Nanoparticles have an average size of about similar to 18 nm and possess highly open mesopores, moderate surface area, and uniform morphology. UV-vis spectra designate that doping of Cu shifted the optical response of the ZnS nanoparticles in to a visible region. These Cu:ZnS nanoparticles were employed as a photocatalyst for chemoselective synthesis of 2-substituted azoles by the reaction of benzyl bromides and 1,2-Diaminobenzene or 2-Mercaptoaniline in visible light. Analogous experiments confirmed that the reaction were proceeds through one pot C-N arylation/ CSp(3)- H oxidation/ cyclization/dehydration sequence. The enhanced catalytic activity by doping could be attributed to the presence of trapping level generated by copper doping which augments the relaxation time of electron and holes so that they are easily available for the reaction. The method was also applicable for the synthesis of quinazolin-4(3H)-ones.
