According to Article 12 of Regulation (EC) No396/2005, EFSA has reviewed the maximum residue levels (MRLs) currently established at European level for the pesticide active substance fluometuron. To assess the occurrence of fluometuron residues in plants, processed commodities, rotational crops and livestock, EFSA considered the conclusions derived in the framework of Commission Regulation (EC) No33/2008 as well as the European authorisations reported by Member States (including the supporting residues data). Based on the assessment of the available data, an MRL proposal was derived and a consumer risk assessment was carried out. All information required by the regulatory framework was present and a risk to consumers was not identified. In addition, EFSA identified some data gaps which are not expected to impact on the validity of the MRL derived but which might have an impact on national authorisations.

In this study, five new pyrimidine derivatives were synthesized and characterized by characterization methods such as H-1-NMR, C-13-NMR, FT-IR and elemental analysis. The corrosion inhibition activity of the synthesized compounds was examined by theoretical calculation using DFT method at the level of B3LYP/6-31G (d,p). According to the calculations, 4-(6-benzoyl-2-benzylidene-3-oxo-7-phenyl-2,3-dihydro-5H-thiazolo[3,2-a]pyrimidin-5-yl)-benzoic acid (6) appears to be a good inhibitor for corrosion.

An HMPA catalyzed reductive alkylation of ureas and thioureas with trichlorosilane under mild reaction conditions has been developed. Both aldehydes and ketones could be used as efficient alkylation reagents in this method to obtain the desired products in moderate to high yields. A variety of di- and trisubsituted ureas and thioureas were easily prepared by this new reductive alkylation method. This protocol exhibits excellent functional group tolerance, chemoselectivity and practicality.

This study reports an innovative pathway for successfully synthesizing composite panels using various waste input. For this purpose, seven types of powder from waste or widely available filler i.e. Quartz off-cut, sand, waste seashell, dolomite, limestone aggregates, concrete waste and limestone dust were used. The study aims to assess the effectiveness and mechanical properties of the various waste powder in the production of powder-resin composites. The panels were then compared with the novel polymeric glass composite (PGC) in the previous study (Heriyanto et al., 2018). Following the same procedure in PGC, the filler was individually grounded to 64-108 mu m and chemically treated with amino silane coupling agent (CA). The powder filler (untreated or treated) is then mixed with the resin binder with a ratio of 80/20 respectively, followed by hot pressing the mixture at the pressure of 550 bar at 65 degrees C for 1 h. The final composite slab is then further cut for mechanical testing. It was found in the study that when CA was not added, surface roughness of the powder particles affected the flexural strength of the final panel significantly. High surface roughness particles such as in Quartz, sand and seashell adhere effectively with the resin binder which led to higher strength. On the contrary, other factors like smooth particle morphology in glass, dolomite and limestone as well as porous structure in concrete and clump of very fine powder in limestone dust degrade the strength of the final panels. With CA addition, adhesion between resin and powder filler were improved significantly. Flexural strength after the CA treatment was found to be much affected by particle characteristics. Silica-based panels i.e. quartz, sand and glass which consist of high strength and hardness of silica particles perform better compared to that of calcium carbonate-based panels. Compression strength, toughness, stiffness, scratch resistance, density and water absorption were also reported in this study. The properties of all the treated panels are found to be comparable, or if not, much better than natural stones. These new approaches of using waste filler in powder – resin based composites can be a new alternative to produce green materials that deliver economic and environmental benefits. Spain is the first olive oil producer worldwide (representing around 45%), with more than 80% of its agricultural area dedicated to this crop. The goal of this study is to assess the environmental impact of the Spanish virgin olive oil production, attending to the farming and industrial phases. A Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is conducted for 5 harvests in approximately 4.000 ha of olive grove in Jaen, the largest producer region of Spain. The type of farming is the most representative in Spain: conventional (non-organic), with a medium-low slope, extensive (100-150 trees per ha) and around 60% dryland orchards. The industrial phase is based on 2-phase extraction process and olive pomace valorization. The functional unit (FU) chosen for the comparative analysis is 1 kg of unpacked virgin olive oil under a perspective from cradle to gate. One of the most representative categories, climate change, places the average environmental impact in 2.43 kg CO2 eq/kg, while the range is between 1.93 and 3.00 kg CO2 eq/kg depending on the harvest. Huge differences between values are observed in the farming phase and they are mostly caused by the virgin olive oil yield of every harvest. The carbon sequestration analyses and the impact produced per FU ranges from 43.78% (for 15/16 harvest) to 46.36% (for 17/18). The impact hotspots detected in the farming phase, in terms of climate change potential, are the categories of plant protection products and herbicides (24.11% of the average value) and fertilizers (20.01%). However, the environmental impact of the industrial phase is relatively constant, with a value of 0.547-0.554 kg of CO2 equivalent. The 80.74% is caused by pomace valorization, which translated to the average whole value, represents the 18.56%. (C) 2020 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Background: Nivolumab was the first immune checkpoint inhibitor approved for previously treated advanced nonesmall cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Before its introduction in the market, nivolumab was made available to NSCLC patients through an expanded access program (EAP). Here we present the Italian cohort of patients with non-squamous NSCLC enrolled in a worldwide nivolumab EAP, with subgroup analyses involving elderly patients, patients with central nervous system (CNS) metastases and patients receiving nivolumab beyond progression. Methods: Pretreated patients with advanced non-squamous NSCLC received nivolumab at 3 mg/kg every 2 weeks up to 24 months. Efficacy data (investigator-assessed tumour response, progression date and survival) and safety data were collected. Findings: 1588 patients were treated across 153 Italian centres. Overall response rate and disease control rate were 18% and 44%, respectively; median overall survival (OS) was 11.3 months (95% CI: 10.2-12.4). Elderly patients (>= 70 n = 522; >= 75 n = 232) achieved outcomes similar to the global study population; patients with CNS metastases (n = 409) had an OS of 8.6 months (95% CI: 6.4-10.8), and a 1-year OS rate of 43%. Nivolumab was administered beyond progression to 276 patients (26%), 57 of whom achieved subsequent disease control; the median OS of patients receiving nivolumab beyond progression was 16.2 months (95% CI: 14.0-18.4), while 1-year OS rate was 62%. Interpretation: To date, this is the largest clinical experience with nivolumab in a real-world setting. Our data support its use in clinical practice for pretreated non-squamous NSCLC, including patients with older age or CNS metastases. (C) 2019 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Quantitative structure-property relationship (QSPR) modelling has been used in many scientific fields. This approach has been extensively applied in environmental research to predict physicochemical properties of compounds with potential environmental impact. The soil sorption coefficient is an important parameter for the evaluation of environmental risks, and it helps to determine the final fate of substances in the environment. In the last few years, different QSPR models have been developed for the determination of the sorption coefficient. In this study, several QSPR models were generated and evaluated for the prediction of log K-oc from the relationship with log P. These models were obtained from an extensive and diverse training set (n = 639) and from subsets of this initial set (i.e. halves, fourths and eighths). The aim of this study was to investigate whether the size of the training set affects the statistical quality of the obtained models. Furthermore, statistical equivalence was verified between the models obtained from smaller sets and the model obtained from the total training set. The results confirmed the equivalence between the models, thus indicating the possibility of using smaller training sets without compromising the statistical quality and predictive capability, as long as most chemical classes in the test set are represented in the training set.

OBJECTIVE Neurosurgical education in the US has changed significantly as a consequence of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Institutional social distancing requirements have resulted in many neurosurgical programs utilizing video conferencing for educational activities. However, it is unclear how or if these practices should continue after the pandemic. The objective of this study was to characterize virtual education in neurosurgery and understand how it should be utilized after COVID-19. METHODS A 24-question, 3-part online survey was administered anonymously to all 117 US neurosurgical residency programs from May 15, 2020, to June 15, 2020. Questions pertained to the current use of virtual conferencing, preferences over traditional conferences, and future inclinations. The Likert scale (1 = strongly disagree, 3 = neutral, 5 = strongly agree) was used. Comparisons were calculated using the Mann-Whitney U-test. Statistical significance was set at 0.05. RESULTS One-hundred eight responses were recorded. Overall, 38 respondents (35.2%) were attendings and 70 (64.8%) were trainees. Forty-one respondents (38.0%) indicated attending 5-6 conferences per week and 70 (64.8%) attend national virtual conferences. When considering different conference types, there was no overall preference (scores < 3) for virtual conferences over traditional conferences. In regard to future use, respondents strongly agreed that they would continue the practice at some capacity after the pandemic (median score 5). Overall, respondents agreed that virtual conferences would partially replace traditional conferences (median score 4), whereas they strongly disagreed with the complete replacement of traditional conferences (median score 1). The most common choices for the partial replacement of tradition conferences were case conferences (59/108, 55%) and board preparation (64/108, 59%). Lastly, there was a significant difference in scores for continued use of virtual conferencing in those who attend nationally sponsored conferences (median score 5, n = 70) and those who do not (median score 4, n = 38; U = 1762.50, z = 2.97, r = 0.29, p = 0.003). CONCLUSIONS Virtual conferences will likely remain an integral part of neurosurgical education after the COVID-19 pandemic has abated. Across the country, residents and faculty report a preference for continued use of virtual conferencing, especially virtual case conferences and board preparation. Some traditional conferences may even be replaced with virtual conferences, in particular those that are more didactic. Furthermore, nationally sponsored virtual conferences have a positive effect on the preferences for continued use of virtual conferences. https:// thejns.org/doi/abs/10.3171/2020.9.FOCUS20672 Safety of 1-Phenylurea.
