A photoinduced synthesis of S-aryl thiosulfonates through a three-component reaction of aryldiazonium tetrafluoroborates, sodium metabisulfite, and thiourea is achieved. The reaction scope generality with a range of aryldiazonium tetrafluoroborates is demonstrated. In this transformation, a radical coupling pathway is proposed with the insertion of sulfur dioxide in the presence of a photocatalyst under visible light irradiation. The organic sulfur motifs in S-aryl thiosulfonates originate from the convenient, cheap, and easily available thiourea and sodium metabisulfite.

Exploring new material as adsorbent for the efficient enrichment of pollutants is always of great significance in analytical chemistry. In this work, a magnetic azobenzene framework (labeled as MAzo) was constructed as a magnetic solid phase extraction (MSPE) adsorbent by a simple and environmentally benign strategy. The MAzo exhibited the attractive features of strong magnetism, outstanding adsorption performance, as well as good reusability. Combining MAzo-based MSPE with high performance liquid phase chromatography, a simple and effective method was developed for simultaneous determination of four phenylurea herbicides in pear juice and apple juice samples. Under optimized experimental conditions, the method offered low limits of detection of 0.05-0.15 ng mL(-1), high recoveries of 86.7-109.2% with RSD less than 7%. Density functional theory calculation indicated that the good adsorption performance of MAzo for PUHs can be ascribed to the strong H-bonding forces and weak pi-pi interactions. The facile, green, low-cost synthesis method together with the excellent adsorption performance endows the MAzo great application prospect in sample preparation. (c) 2020 Elsevier B.V. This paper presents a comparative experimental study on the frosting characteristics of an air source heat pump system that contains two operation modes, i.e., the vapor-bypassed evaporation (VB) mode and the conventional operation (CO) mode. For VB mode, a phase separator is installed inside the evaporator re-frigerant circuit to bypass vapor refrigerant, which can increase the average evaporation temperature for retarding frosting by reducing refrigerant pressure drop and decreasing the area of refrigerant inferior heat transfer coefficient region (mist flow region). According to the experimental results, under H2 con-dition (indoor: 20/15 degrees C; outdoor: 2/1 degrees C), as the initial refrigerant mass flow rate ranges 35-45 g / s , the VB mode yields 4.30-7.06% lower frost mass, 3.9-7.3% higher average heating capacity and 6.4-10.8% higher coefficient of performance (COP) over CO mode with the frosting duration of 60 min. Moreover, under H3 condition (indoor: 20/15 degrees C; outdoor:-7/-8 degrees C), the frosting duration is set as 100 min, and the VB mode obtains 9.67% lower frost mass, 7.0% higher average heating capacity and 13.3% higher COP over CO mode. Generally, the vapor-bypassed evaporation technique has a great application potential in retarding frosting and improving performance of an air source heat pump system especially under high heating capacity or low ambient temperature conditions. Background: Nivolumab was the first immune checkpoint inhibitor approved for previously treated advanced nonesmall cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Before its introduction in the market, nivolumab was made available to NSCLC patients through an expanded access program (EAP). Here we present the Italian cohort of patients with non-squamous NSCLC enrolled in a worldwide nivolumab EAP, with subgroup analyses involving elderly patients, patients with central nervous system (CNS) metastases and patients receiving nivolumab beyond progression. Methods: Pretreated patients with advanced non-squamous NSCLC received nivolumab at 3 mg/kg every 2 weeks up to 24 months. Efficacy data (investigator-assessed tumour response, progression date and survival) and safety data were collected. Findings: 1588 patients were treated across 153 Italian centres. Overall response rate and disease control rate were 18% and 44%, respectively; median overall survival (OS) was 11.3 months (95% CI: 10.2-12.4). Elderly patients (>= 70 n = 522; >= 75 n = 232) achieved outcomes similar to the global study population; patients with CNS metastases (n = 409) had an OS of 8.6 months (95% CI: 6.4-10.8), and a 1-year OS rate of 43%. Nivolumab was administered beyond progression to 276 patients (26%), 57 of whom achieved subsequent disease control; the median OS of patients receiving nivolumab beyond progression was 16.2 months (95% CI: 14.0-18.4), while 1-year OS rate was 62%. Interpretation: To date, this is the largest clinical experience with nivolumab in a real-world setting. OBJECTIVE In patients with type 2 diabetes uncontrolled with metformin, exenatide once weekly (QW) plus dapagliflozin produced greater reductions in glycemic parameters (glycated hemoglobin [HbA(1c)], fasting plasma glucose [FPG], and 2-h postprandial glucose [2-h PPG]), weight, and systolic blood pressure (SBP) than exenatide QW or dapagliflozin alone after 28 weeks of treatment in DURATION-8. Following a 24-week extension period, improvements were sustained at 52 weeks. In this study, we investigated efficacy and safety at 104 weeks after randomization. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS DURATION-8 was a 104-week, multicenter, double-blind, randomized, active-controlled, phase 3 trial. In total, 695 adults (aged >= 18 years) with type 2 diabetes and inadequate glycemic control (HbA(1c)8.0-12.0% [64-108 mmol/mol]) despite stable metformin monotherapy (>= 1,500 mg/day) were randomly assigned (1:1:1) to receive exenatide 2 mg QW plus once-daily dapagliflozin 10 mg, exenatide QW plus placebo, or dapagliflozin plus placebo. All 104-week evaluations were exploratory. RESULTS At week 104, 431 (62.0%) patients completed treatment. The adjusted least squares mean change (SE) from baseline to week 104 in HbA(1c)was greater with exenatide QW plus dapagliflozin (-1.70% [0.11]) versus exenatide QW plus placebo (-1.29% [0.12];P= 0.007) and dapagliflozin plus placebo (-1.06% [0.12];P< 0.001). Clinically relevant changes in FPG, 2-h PPG, weight, and SBP were also observed with exenatide QW plus dapagliflozin. There were no unexpected safety findings, and exenatide QW plus dapagliflozin was well tolerated, with no episodes of major hypoglycemia. CONCLUSIONS In this exploratory analysis, among those individuals who completed the trial without rescue therapy, there was clinically relevant efficacy over 2 years with exenatide QW plus dapagliflozin, with no unexpected safety findings. Production of nanocomposites from macro-scale materials in situ in a melting compounder is highly desirable yet challenging. In this study, we develop a highly efficient approach for the preparation of cellulose nanofiber (CNF)-reinforced high-density polyethylene (HDPE) composite materials from as-received wood pulp fibers, in which nanofibrillation-assisting plasticizers (urea and urea derivatives) and a diblock copolymer dispersant are used. The most effective plasticizer is urea, which plays a crucial role in producing CNF with less fragmentation during the kneading step, owing to the plasticization/nanofibrillation and the reaction with hydroxyl groups of cellulose fibers into a carbamate. The diblock copolymer as a dispersant enables the stabilization of the appropriate dispersion of the produced CNF in nonpolar HDPE. The resulting composites exhibit significantly improved mechanical properties, including a 6.9-fold increase in the Youngs modulus with 10 wt % loading of wood pulp fibers over that of neat HDPE.

In this study, five new pyrimidine derivatives were synthesized and characterized by characterization methods such as H-1-NMR, C-13-NMR, FT-IR and elemental analysis. The corrosion inhibition activity of the synthesized compounds was examined by theoretical calculation using DFT method at the level of B3LYP/6-31G (d,p). According to the calculations, 4-(6-benzoyl-2-benzylidene-3-oxo-7-phenyl-2,3-dihydro-5H-thiazolo[3,2-a]pyrimidin-5-yl)-benzoic acid (6) appears to be a good inhibitor for corrosion.

Synthesis of pyrazole-3-carboxylic acid was progressed via two different protocols, one of which is solid state. Pyrazole-3-carboxylic acid was converted into different derivatives such as ester, urea, amide and nitrile. The amide compound was converted to nitrile using SOCl2 and DMF. Solid state heating of carboxylic acid gave decarboxylated product. Cyclization of tetra-substituted pyrazole with hydrazines resulted in pyrazolopyridazinones. The antimicrobial activities of the synthesized pyrazole derivatives against Bacillus cereus, Escherichia coli, Micrococcus luteus, Staphylococcus aureus, and Saccharomyces cerevisiae were evaluated. One of the pyrazole derivatives which possess nitro group showed antimicrobial activity in only B. cereus, a Gram-positive bacteria, with an MIC of 128 mu g/mL.

Despite certain limitations, bioaugmentation enhances the efficiency of bioremediation systems. In this study, three aqueous extracts (APE, ACE and APE) from aged residual biomixtures in three biopurification systems (BPSs) exposed to pesticides at a pilot scale were found to improve pesticide removal. The addition of ACEs and AVEs to solutions containing the model compound diuron increased removal rates 6- and 17-fold, respectively, as compared to APEs. These extracts also increased the removal of the metabolite 3,4-dichloroaniline, while AVEs, in particular, were found to remove all pesticides within 9 days. Three metabolites less hazardous than 3,4-dichloroaniline were identified by SPME/GC/MS. AVEs, which also enhance linuron removal in liquid media, were found to increase diuron removal 6-fold in BPSs. We observed an increase in the relative abundance of taxa, such as Chloroflexi, Acidobacteria, Gemmatimonadetes, Firmicutes, Deinococcus-Thermus and especially Proteobacteria (10%), in AV biomixtures, as well as an enrichment of gamma-proteobacteria and the actinobacterial genus Dokdonella in AVEs with respect to initial noncontaminated IV biomixture. We demonstrate that extracts containing a pollutant-acclimatized microbiome could be used as part of a bioaugmentation strategy to improve the functioning of on-farm BPSs and contaminated systems. Graphene oxide was covalently modified with p-phenylenediamine via a diazonium reaction. The resulting material was employed as a sorbent for the solid-phase extraction of six phenylurea herbicides (metoxuron, monuron, chlortoluron, isoproturon, monolinuron, and buturon) from environmental water and lettuce leafs. Some key factors that influence the extraction efficiency were studied, including sample loading rate, sample pH, and desorption conditions. Following desorption with acetonitrile, the analytes were quantified by HPLC with UV detection. Under optimized conditions, response to phenylurea herbicides is linear in the 2.0-100ngmL(-1) concentration range for water samples, and 5.0-100ngg(-1) for leaf lettuces. The limits of detection are 0.10-0.25ngmL(-1) for water samples, and 1.5-2.5ngg(-1) for leaf lettuces. The sorbent was also applied to the preconcentration of organic compounds including nitroimidazoles, chlorophenols, phenylurea insecticides and phthalates. This shows that this sorbent has a large potential for the enrichment of organic pollutants.
