According to a first view on the geometrical and electronic structure of the tris(pentafluoroethyl)silanide, this anion appears as a Lewis base. Quantum chemical calculations on perfluoroalkylated silanides show significantly lower HOMO and LUMO energy levels in comparison to their non-fluorinated counterparts, which implies reduced Lewis basicity and increased Lewis acidity of the [Si(C2F5)(3)](-) ion. Purpose: To synthesize and characterize some new gabapentin Schiff base derivatives, and to assess their antibacterial, antioxidant and antiepileptic activities. Methods: Four Schiff base derivatives of gabapentin, termed G1, G2, G3 and G4, were synthesized by condensation with benzoin, vanillin, acetophenone, and benzophenone, respectively. Their chemical identities were established by FTIR, H-1 NMR and C-13 NMR techniques. The new compounds were screened for antibacterial activity using agar well method, antioxidant activity by DPPH assay, and anticonvulsant activity against pentylenetetrazole (PTZ) induced seizures in mice. Results: All the compounds showed antibacterial activity against the test strains to variable degrees, while the parent drug did not exhibit antibacterial activity. The zones of inhibition of compound G2 against Micrococcus luteus (36.2 +/- 1.0 mm) and Serratia marcescens (28.2 +/- 1.0 mm), and of compound G4 against Stenotrophomonas maltophilia (36.8 +/- 1.0 mm) were larger compared to the standard drug, doxycycline, exhibiting zones of inhibition 28.2 +/- 1.3, 28.2 +/- 0.9 and 20.0 +/- 0.9 mm, respectively. In addition, compounds G1 and G2 possessed significantly greater (p < 0.05) radical scavenging activity (82.3 +/- 1.8 and 92.3 +/- 2.2 %, respectively) than the precursor drug, gabapentin (63.2 +/- 2.6 %). The seizure scores for compounds GI (0.7 +/- 0.06) and G2 (0.9 +/- 0.07) were comparable (p > 0.05) with gabapentin (0.8 +/- 0.06), while compounds G3 and G4 were less active (p < 0.05) than gabapentin. Conclusion: Compounds G1 and G2 exhibit good antibacterial and antioxidant activities while retaining the anticonvulsant activity of the parent drug, gabapentin, thus making them suitable candidates for further development for the treatment of neurodegenerative pathologies associated with bacterial infections. Soft ionic conductors, such as hydrogels and ionogels, have enabled stretchable and transparent ionotronics, but they suffer from key limitations inherent to the liquid components, which may leak and evaporate. Here, novel liquid-free ionic conductive elastomers (ICE) that are copolymer networks hosting lithium cations and associated anions via lithium bonds and hydrogen bonds are demonstrated, such that they are intrinsically immune from leakage and evaporation. The ICEs show extraordinary mechanical versatility including excellent stretchability, high strength and toughness, self-healing, quick self-recovery, and 3D-printability. More intriguingly, the ICEs can defeat the conflict of strength versus toughness-a compromise well recognized in mechanics and material science-and simultaneously overcome the conflict between ionic conductivity and mechanical properties, which is common for ionogels. Several liquid-free ionotronics based on the ICE are further developed, including resistive force sensors, multifunctional ionic skins, and triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs), which are not subject to limitations of previous gel-based devices, such as leakage, evaporation, and weak hydrogel-elastomer interfaces. Also, the 3D printability of the ICEs is demonstrated by printing a series of structures with fine features. The findings offer promise for a variety of ionotronics requiring environmental stability and durability.

It is found that free radicals of (OH)-O-center dot would be generated in KOH solutions at elevated temperatures according to the results of fluorescence analysis. Five kinds of radical inhibitors (tert-butylphenol-containing reagents, 4-amino-tempo, benzophenone, phenothiazine and N-phenyl-1-naphthylamine) were employed as the dopant, separately, to prepare anion exchange membranes (AEMs) based on poly(4-vinylbenzylchloride-styrene). The investigaions on the properties of the prepared AEMs indicate that more radicals might be produced during the degradation of the AEMs via chain propagation reactions. Moreover, the influences of the radical inhibitors on the degradation of the AEMs in 8 M KOH solutions at 80 degrees C are quite different although all these inhibitors could react with (OH)-O-center dot radicals. Therein the radical inhibitors o-, m-, p-tert-butylphenols could effectively enhance the chemical stability of the AEMs. However, when the phenol-containing inhibitors have a large substituent group in its benzene ring, the membranes tend to be brittle during the stability test.

This paper is a multi-aspect study which has undertaken essential numerical characterizations of not only mechanical and hydraulic properties but also acoustic behaviour of a new bio-based porous epoxy resin obtained by a ?green? adapted combination of the cationic photopolymerization and the porogen leaching technique. This new kind of material generally possesses interconnected fillet-edge cubic pores which lead to more complex morphology than in the case of spherical or cylindrical pores. In order to characterize the effective properties of the material, a multiscale approach using the asymptotic homogenization method has been applied. Such a method has induced cell problems whose resolutions have been conducted on the geometrical configuration defined from the experimental data of the samples by using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and mercury intrusion porosimetry (MIP). The sound absorption behaviour of a plate made of the studied material has been subsequently characterized by solving a normal incidence acoustic problem with an assumption of rigid impervious backing. The mechanical model has been validated by balancing numerical results of the sound absorption coefficient, reflection coefficient, surface impedance, equivalent dynamic density and equivalent dynamic bulk modulus with corresponding experimental results obtained by conducting the three-microphone impedance tube testing. As a consequence, the mechanical model has been applied to investigate the influence of microstructural characteristics on effective properties and acoustic performance of the material. To the authors? knowledge, the features of the microstructure obtained from an elaboration process using the porogen leaching technique have rarely been studied in the literature. Four types of ordered pore arrangements together with systematic variations of the porosity and the pore size have been taken under consideration. Based on the results of these investigations, the subtle relation between microstructures and properties has been established. The processing parameters of material elaboration could be adjusted so that the obtained porous material would possess the best sound absorption performance.

A CF3SO2Na/Pd(OAc)(2) co-catalysis strategy was developed to produce aryl ketones via visible-light-induced decarboxylative cross-coupling of alpha-oxocarboxylic acids and aryl boronic acids. The preparation of chiral monohydrosilanes remains a rarely achieved goal. To this end a Rh-catalyzed desymmetrization of dihydrosilanes by way of intramolecular C(sp(2))-H functionalization under simple and mild conditions has now been developed. This method provides easy access to a broad range of chiral monohydrosilanes in good yields with excellent enantioselectivities (up to >99 % ee). The resulting monohydrosilanes constitute a good platform to access stereogenic silicon compounds, as well as useful compounds to probe silicon stereochemistry.

Organo-radical catalysts have recently attracted great interest, and the development of this field can be expected to broaden the applications of organocatalysis. Herein, the first example of a radical-generating system is reported that does not require any photoirradiation, radical initiators, or preactivated substrates.
