Exploring new material as adsorbent for the efficient enrichment of pollutants is always of great significance in analytical chemistry. In this work, a magnetic azobenzene framework (labeled as MAzo) was constructed as a magnetic solid phase extraction (MSPE) adsorbent by a simple and environmentally benign strategy. The MAzo exhibited the attractive features of strong magnetism, outstanding adsorption performance, as well as good reusability. Combining MAzo-based MSPE with high performance liquid phase chromatography, a simple and effective method was developed for simultaneous determination of four phenylurea herbicides in pear juice and apple juice samples. Under optimized experimental conditions, the method offered low limits of detection of 0.05-0.15 ng mL(-1), high recoveries of 86.7-109.2% with RSD less than 7%. Density functional theory calculation indicated that the good adsorption performance of MAzo for PUHs can be ascribed to the strong H-bonding forces and weak pi-pi interactions. The facile, green, low-cost synthesis method together with the excellent adsorption performance endows the MAzo great application prospect in sample preparation. (c) 2020 Elsevier B.V. CoFe2O4@SiO2-CPTES-Guanidine-Cu(II) magnetic nanoparticles were synthesized and used as a new, inexpensive and efficient heterogeneous catalyst for the synthesis of polyhydroquinolines and 2,3-dihydroquinazoline-4(1H)-ones and for the oxidation of sulfides. The structure of this nanocatalyst was characterized using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, vibrating sample magnetometry, thermogravimetric analysis, X-ray diffraction and inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry. A novel metal-free, reusable, and green catalytic system comprising hydrothermal carbon microspheres (HCMSs) supporting N-hydroxyphthalimide (NHPI) was developed and employed in the aerobic oxidation of alcohol. Hierarchically porous HCMSs with good monodispersity were produced by the hydrothermal carbonization of sucrose and designed NaOH-impregnated calcination under a static air atmosphere. The meso- and macroporous pores on HCMSs make up 71% of the total pore volume. The covalent immobilization of NHPI onto HCMSs was first accomplished by grafting hyperbranched polyquaternary amine via repetitive ring-opening reactions of diglycidyl ether and subsequent amidation with 4-carboxy-NHPI. Owing to the cocatalysis of grafted quaternary ammonium salt, a designed heterogeneous catalyst has superior performance to free NHPI in the oxidation of 2-phenylethanol. The established catalytic system achieved 42% conversion and up to 96% selectivity of acetophenone at 90 degrees C under 1 atm O-2 for 20 h and presented a versatile catalytic effect for diversified alcohols. Immobilized NHPI could be facilely recycled via simple filtration and displayed good stability for six cycles without a discernible decrease of reactivity or damage of catalyst morphology in repeated oxidation test.

Examined here are the structures of complexes of benzophenone microsolvated with up to three water molecules by using broadband rotational spectroscopy and the cold conditions of a molecular jet. The analysis shows that the water molecules dock sideways on benzophenone for the water monomer and dimer moieties, and they move above one of the aromatic rings when the water cluster grows to the trimer. The rotational spectra shows that the water trimer moiety in the complex adopts an open-loop arrangement. Ab initio calculations face a dilemma of identifying the global minimum between the open loop and the closed loop, which is only solved when zero-point vibrational energy correction is applied. An OH…pi bond and a Burgi-Dunitz interaction between benzophenone and the water trimer are present in the cluster. This work shows the subtle balance between water-water and water-solute interactions when the solute molecule offers several different anchor sites for water molecules.

Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is a biologically important gaseous molecule that exhibits promising protective effects against a variety of pathological processes. For example, it was recognized as a blood pressure lowering agent. Aligned with the need for easily modifiable platforms for the H2S supply, we report here the preparation and the H2S release kinetics from a series of structurally diversified thioamides, thiolactams and thioureas. Three different thionation methods based on the usage of a phosphorus pentasulfide and Lawesson reagent were applied to prepare the target thioamides and thiolactams. Furthermore, obtained H2S donors were evaluated both in in vivo and in vitro studies. The kinetic parameters of the liberating H2S was determined and compared with NaHS and GYY4137 using two different detection technics i.e.; fluorescence labeling 7-azido-4-methyl-2H-chromen-2-one and 5,5′-dithiobis (2-nitrobenzoic acid), sulfhydryl probe, also known as the Ellman’s reagent. We have proved that the amount of releasing H2S from these compounds is controllable through structural modifications. Finally, the present study shows a hypotensive response to an intravenous administration of the developed donors in the anesthetized rats.

A series of novel tricyclic quinazolinone-iminosugars 1 (a-c) were synthesized from the benzyl protected sugars through three steps. Firstly, the benzyl protected sugar (aldehyde) 5 reacted with o-aminobenzamide by the iodine-induced oxidative condensation to afford the corresponding aldo-quizanolinone 6. Secondly, through the intramolecular cyclization of the unprotected OH and the amide NH in 6, the tricyclic compounds 7 and 8 were constructed by the key Mitsunobu reaction. Finally, removal of the benzyl group gave the target tricyclic quinazolinone-iminosugars 1. The protocol was effective for the preparation of the tricyclic iminosugars in satisfactory yield. Interestingly, an unusual C-2 epimerization was observed with D-mannose and D-ribose compounds under the conditions of the Mitsunobu reaction that generated the products having the trans configuration at the C-2 and C-3 positions. Unfortunately, such tricyclic quinazolinone-iminosugars showed no inhibitory effects on the tested five glycosidases.

A Rh-catalyzed pot and step economic synthesis of aza-polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (N-PAHs) from readily available aryl ketones and alkynes has been disclosed. Additionally, a novel synthetic application of the well-known aminating reagent hydroxylamine-O-sulfonic acid (HOSA) has been explored as an in situ redox-neutral directing group for the formation of N-PAHs via isoquinoline. Objectives: Brain metastases are common among patients with non-squamous non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and result in a poor prognosis. Consequently, such patients are often excluded from clinical trials. In Italy an expanded access program (EAP) was used to evaluate nivolumab efficacy and safety in this sub population outside a clinical trial. Materials and methods: In this EAP, nivolumab was available for patients with non-squamous NSCLC in progression after at least one systemic treatment for stage IIIB/IV disease. Nivolumab 3 mg/kg was administered intravenously every 2 weeks. Patients with brain metastases could be included if they were asymptomatic, neurologically stable and either off corticosteroids or on a stable or decreasing dose of <= 10 mg/day prednisone. Results: 409 out of 1588 patients included had asymptomatic or controlled brain metastases. A median of 7 doses (range 1-45) were delivered. Median follow-up was 6.1 months (range 0.1-21.9). The disease control rate was 39%: 4 patients had a complete response, 64 a partial response and 96 showed stable disease. At baseline, 118 patients were on corticosteroids and 74 were undergoing concomitant radiotherapy. The median overall survival in this subpopulation was 8.6 months (95% CI: 6.4-10.8). 337 discontinued treatment for various reasons, 23 (7%) of whom due to adverse events, in line with that observed in the overall population and in previous studies. Conclusions: Our results confirm that nivolumab is active in non-squamous NSCLC patients with brain metastases, despite their poor prognosis. Its safety profile is also concordant with results in the EAP overall population and in patients with other malignancies.
