Chitosan (Cs) was cross-linked with four various quantities of 4,4′-(5,5′-carbonylbis(1,3-dioxoisoindoline-5,2-diyl) )dibenzoyl isothiocyanate. Elemental analysis, FTIR and H-1 NMR spectroscopy assured that the amino groups of chitosan reacted with the isothiocyanate groups of the cross-linker producing four new hydrogels namely as BBTU-Cs-1, BBTU-Cs-2, BBTU-Cs-3, and BBTU-Cs-4 according to the increment of their cross-linking content, respectively. SEM showed their porous structures and XRD indicated their amorphous nature. Their swell ability increased with decreasing the medium pH value and with increasing cross-linking density. In comparison with the popular COX inhibitor Celecoxib, these hydrogels showed an inhibition activity towards COX enzymes with selective inhibition towards COX-2. Their inhibition activity could be arranged as follows: Celecoxib > BBTU-Cs-4 > BBTU-Cs-3 > BBTU-Cs-2 > BBTU-Cs-1. BBTU-CS-4 hydrogel exhibited a potent inhibition against COX-2 (IC50 0.42 mu g/ml) compared with that observed for the standard Celecoxib (IC50 026 mu g/ml). BBTIJ-Cs-4 is more potent against H. pylori compared to the other hydrogels. BBTU-Cs-4 at a concentration of 7.81 mu g/ml is able to kill 100% of the H. pylori and exhibits a preferential ability to inhibit 8935% of COX-2 than COX-1 (0%). These findings make BBTU-Cs-4 a promising anti-H. pylori and selective anti-inflammatory agent. (C) 2021 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Novel series of some triazolo [4,3-b]pyridazine derivatives were designed and synthesized. All the newly synthesized compounds were evaluated for their cytotoxic activity at 10(-5) M concentration towards 60 cancer cell lines according to USA NCI protocol. Most of the synthesized compounds showed good activity against SR (leukemia) cell panel. The most active compounds, 2f and 4a were subjected for further evaluation at a five dose level screening and their efficacy for c-Met kinase inhibition was determined in vitro. Binding mode of these derivatives was explored via molecular docking.

In this study, a graphene oxide (GO) functionalized organic-inorganic hybrid was prepared by covalently immobilization of organic (3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane) and inorganic (H3PMo12O40) groups on the basal plane of GO. Structure of catalyst was characterized with different analysis such as FT-IR, SEM, TEM, EDS, WDX, XRD, and TGA. All analyses approve the successful covalently immobilization of organic and inorganic parts on the GO. The activity of catalyst has been tested for the synthesis of tetrahydrobenzo[b]pyran derivatives under solvent-free condition in short reaction time and good to excellent yields. [GRAPHICS] .

Eight contaminants were used to perform a surrogate contamination test to evaluate safety of the process for producing recycled pulp for adult paper diapers. We performed a safety evaluation of the recycling process for producing recycled pulp following the European Food Safety Authority safety assessment for polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles using recycled PET. We also compared the first tier safety limit established on the basis of TTC (C-limit) in the pulp that contained recycled pulp with residual contaminant concentrations (C-res). If C-limit > C-res, there is no concern regarding safety of the recycling process. C-limit was determined to be 0.46 mg/kg-pulp based on the human exposure threshold of 0.15 mu g/person/day using the scenario in which a bedridden senior citizen uses four adult paper diapers manufactured with pulp containing 10% recycled pulp per day. C-res was derived from the initial concentration in used pulp (0.17 mg/kg-pulp), and decontamination rate was obtained from the surrogate contamination test. The C res of the eight contaminants were between 0.0017 and 0.10 mg/kg-pulp, which were all below the C-limit of 0.46 mg/kg-pulp. These results indicated there was no safety problem regarding this process for producing recycled pulp for adult paper diapers.

Magnetic porous microspheres composed of Fe3C, MnO and graphitic carbon (Fe3C/MnO/GC) were prepared by a one-pot method. A polycondensate obtained from urea and formaldehyde served as the carbon source and was calcined in the presence of metallic iron and manganese to yield Fe3C/MnO/GC. The resultant hybrid has highly mesoporous architecture, large specific surface, graphitic structure and adequate saturation magnetism. It is shown to possess excellent pre-concentration ability for herbicides (monuron, chlortoluron, atrazine and terbutylhylazine). The sorbent can be easily separated and has a long service lifetime (>25cycles). Under optimized conditions, the sorbent excels by good recoveries (78-120%), high enrichment factors (45-50) and good precision (RSDs <= 10.7%). The limits of detection are 0.01-0.10 gL(-1) for (spiked) water samples, 0.22-0.87 mu g kg(-1) for grape samples, and 0.18-0.74 mu g kg(-1) for potato samples. A novel and rapid voltammetric assay for the simultaneous determination of monolinuron (MLN) and linuron (LIN) using an electrochemically pretreated pencil graphite electrode (PGE*) is reported for the first time. Enhanced oxidation peak currents of MLN and LIN were observed at PGE* when compared with electrochemically non-pretreated PGE. Differential pulse voltammetric (DPV) results showed distinct anodic peaks at 1.064 V and 1.170 V for MLN and LIN, respectively. Under optimum conditions, the detection limits were 3.7 x 10(-7) mol L-1 and 5.8 x 10(-7) mol L-1 for MLN and LIN respectively. The DPV method was applied for the quantitative determination of the mentioned compounds in spiked tap water samples enriched by solid phase extraction. The voltammetric results were in good agreement with high-performance liquid chromatography data.

This work reports the influence of experimental parameters (pH and counter-ion) in the synthesis of the 1D coordination polymer [Cu(IDA)(H2O)(2)](n). (IDA = iminodiacetate), named here Cu-IDA. Copper-manganese bimetallic coordination polymers were also obtained by isomorphic replacement into Cu-IDA structure, with different molar ratio of Cu2+ and Mn2+ ions, denoted here as Cu/Mn-IDA (0.9/0.1; 0.7/0.3 and 0.5/0.5). New coordination polymers are isostructural to Cu-IDA and amounts of manganese atoms inserted into crystalline structure were evaluated by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and Rietveld refinement. All coordination polymers obtained were also characterized by infrared absorption spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analysis. Homometallic and bimetallic compounds were evaluated as catalysts for Baylis-Hillman reaction with yields and reaction times comparable or superior to those in the literature. Compounds containing manganese cations shows higher catalytic performance, especially Cu/Mn-IDA (0.9/0.1) with yield 91% in 5 h of reaction. Results also indicate an important role played by the metallic centre in the catalytic mechanism.

This study included 1456 men and 1411 women who were trauma-exposed and underwent routine health examinations in a community epidemiological investigation. The participants completed the posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) Check List-Civilian Version (PCL-C) for PTSD and medical examinations to detect metabolic syndrome. Adjustments for age, marriage, exercise, education, cigarette smoking, cancer, stroke, angina, and thyroid disease were performed. The relationship between PTSD and metabolic syndrome and each of its components was analyzed by multiple logistic regression. In women, PTSD was associated with metabolic syndrome (OR = 1.53, 95% CI = 1.01-1.95, P = .047) and the high-density lipoprotein cholesterol component (OR = 1.98, 95% CI = 1.04-2.12, P = .002). In men, PTSD was related to the hypertension component of metabolic syndrome (OR = 0.54, 95% CI = 0.31-0.92, P = .023). There was also a relationship between PTSD severity and metabolism (OR = 1.141, 95% CI = 1.002-1.280, P = 0.037) in women, and PTSD was inversely associated with the hypertension component (OR = 0.54, 95% CI = 0.31-0.92, P = .023) in men. PTSD was related to metabolic syndrome only in women. We plan to further research the mechanism of sex differences and dyslipidemia.

In the search for new anti-influenza virus (IV) compounds, we have identified the 1,2,4-triazolo[1,5-a] pyrimidine (TZP) as a very suitable scaffold to obtain compounds able to disrupt IV RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRP) PA-PB1 subunits heterodimerization. In this work, in order to acquire further SAR insights for this class of compounds and identify more potent derivatives, we designed and synthesized additional series of analogues to investigate the role of the substituents around the TZP core. To this aim, we developed four facile and efficient one-step procedures for the synthesis of 5-phenyl-, 6- phenyl- and 7-phenyl-2-amino-[1,2,4]triazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidines, and 2-amino-5-phenyl-[1,2,4]triazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidin-7-ol. Two analogues having the ethyl carboxylate moiety at the C-2 position of the TZP were also prepared in good yields. Then, the scaffolds herein synthesized and two previous scaffolds were functionalized and evaluated for their anti-IAV activity, leading to the identification of compound 22 that showed both anti-PA-PB1 (IC50 = 19.5 mM) and anti-IAV activity (EC50 = 16 mM) at non-toxic concentrations, thus resulting among the most active TZP derivatives reported to date by us. A selection of the synthesized compounds, along with a set of in-house available analogues, was also tested against SARS-CoV-2. A Lewis-acid-promoted cyclization reaction of benzoyl chlorides with 2-(4,5-dihydrooxazol-2-yl)anilines, which can offer a series of N3-chloroethyl quinazolinones, is disclosed. The reaction is compatible with the functional groups of the substrates; environment-friendly AlCl3 is probably the chloride source. Moreover, the addition of NH4SCN can also produce a range of N3-thiocyanatoethyl quinazolinones in moderate-to-good yields.
